dianala70, unfortunately the mention of anaemia in the title of this forum is a bit of a misnomer as it is actually about a condition that causes problems absorbing B12 which leads to a particular form of anaemia in which red blood cells are larger and rounder than normal.

However, it can also affect the absorption of iron and other vitamins and minerals and there are other conditions that will affect iron absorption and they can also affect the absorption of B12.

Your hematologist is doing the right thing - trying to find out why your iron levels are so low. This can be because of a bleed or it could be because of an absorption problem. the GI may well be looking for both, but is probably going to be looking for an absorption problem.
