Hi I have done a few posts on thyroid community regarding my symptoms and blood tests but will post some results here for you to comment on what you think. I have had numerous symptoms for years which include fatigue, palpitations, muscle aches/weakness,weight/muscle loss, balance issues especially when driving-I feel lightheaded and vision strange, pale skin, difficulty swallowing like throat muscle cannot initiate swallow, headaches, pins and needles etc.

Latest results

Serum free tsh 1.85 mu/l (0.35-5.50)

Free t4 10.1 Pmol/l (7.0-17.0)

Serum b12 385 ng/l (150-900)

Folate 5.3 ug/l >3.0

Ferriyin 28 ug/l (15-300)

I know b12 is normal lab ranges but can I still be deficient at my range?

whilst serum B12 will miss 25% of people who are B12 deficient your results are getting towards the point where it's less likely that you are B12 deficient.

Unless you have a time-line of results that show your B12 levels falling it seems unlikely that you have a B12 absorption problem - though that doesn't rule out the possibility of another problem metabolising B12 - there are a few but they are quite rare (and don't really include MTHFR - which is more of an issue for folate).

There are a couple of tests that could help clarify - MMA and homocysteine as you are quite symptomatic - though it is also the case that the symptoms overlap with a number of other conditions

Hi ~ I'd suggest that you read the book "Could it Be B12?" by Sally M Pacholok ~ it may clarify your situation. Barbara xx

Hi pemby1984. I agree with Gambit62. It doesn't look like you're diffcient in b12. Have they checked your instrinic factor? That blood test shows if you're having trouble absorbing. Also has your D3 been checked? Low in D3 can have similar symptoms.

Hi thanks for reply. No none of them have been checked as far as I know. I am going to ask about them. Yes I am within the range in regards to b12,although having many symptoms of the deficiency. Said in lab report that deficiency is unlikely, but further testing will need to be carried out if my neuropathy symptoms persist which they do. X
