GP should start you on loading dose now.

Is your thyroid issue a result of the B12D?

Supplement with folic acid and a multivitamin for all the other minerals and metals. Measure ferritin again in 3 months.

Start a logbook of all your symptoms and try to assess a daily severity score for each.

Also log food, drink and meds.

You may feel worse before feeling better. You may also feel like you are on a roller coaster until you get the right intervals between injections.

After loading doses, GP may put you on 3 months between injections.

Discuss the plan of monitoring your symptoms yourself with your GP and provide a written list "to be included is your file" each time you visit but especially when you ask for more frequent injections.

Any short term memory loss or depression? You are pretty young but could already have nerve damage.

Thanks I presume my B12 def is due to low thyroid but I think I have coeliac disease. I have memory loss as well

The logbook will also help you monitor your progress in the presence of memory loss

Start your loading doses as soon as possible and start folate at the same time.

Elizalee - start B12 asap and then add in folate once you have had the loading dose

There have been a very few isolated and rare reports of neurological complications where folate is take before B12 levels have been raised - so basically don't start on the folate until you have had the first B12 dose - particularly given that your B12 seems to be very much on the low side.

Link about folate deficiency

patient.info/doctor/folate-... See Management section

It mentions that it's important to get any co-existing B12 deficiency treated if starting folate treatment.

I think this may be because taking folate can mask the effects of low B12 on red blood cells.
