Return of migraine headaches

Hi everyone,

I was started on hydrocobalamin in May after. B12 167, Folate 17.

I also have taken thyroxine for 15 years and my T4 is 11 TSH 3.6

All other bloods within normal range and further tests relating to PA negative.

I believe that my B12 deficiency is caused by chronic gastritis confirmed by endoscope around 7 years ago.

I had numerous symptoms but GP only interested in the blood test and while that was "intermediate" he agreed to treat with the usual regime.

After researching your page and reading Martin Hooper's book and Could it be B12 I decided to self inject after the initial loading dose and give myself 2 injections a week.

The weekly headaches/migraines stopped and my skin colour returned and slowly I got more energy.

However after my latest blood test which showed the B12 level to be over 1500 (2 years worth) and folate 24 (I have taken a supplement) I decided to reduce the dose to weekly.

Last week by day 6 I was completely wiped out and in bed at 5pm: I SI'd the following day and yesterday (day 5) I had an all day headache and all night migraine: I still have a tight band round my head.

Do you think this is due to the B12 or could it be a coincidence?

I have also noticed my heart is pounding in the night and I am having very unsettled, sleepless nights over the last 2 weeks.

Would be grateful for any advice

Thanks

Hi Countrylou fortunately you cannot overdose on Vitamin B12 as any "excess to requirement" is excreted via your urine and although not a medically trained person it seems to me that you need to return your frequency of injections to when you weren't having the migraines.

I wish you well

Small correction:

Could it be B12? was written by Sally Pachalok- she is an American and not a part of the PAS

Hi levels of B12 in serum aren't toxic but they can lead to a reaction which interferes with the ability to transfer B12 from blood to cells so possible that your supplementation may have done this - leading to a functional B12 deficiency - this can be treated by keeping levels in serum above a tipping point where there is enough in your blood to beat the reaction.

Its a bit like building a dam but still needing water - so you have to keep the water levels behind the dam topped up so enough trickles over the top.

Can't say for sure that this is what is going on but it's a possibility ... and would explain why you were okay with more frequent injections. Suggest that you go back to them.
