Necessary To Fast For Blood Tests?

I'm having bloods done later this week - B12, folate, ferritin, IF AB. Just wondering whether I should fast - it's early morning so no big deal if I need to. I haven't been advised either way by my GP. What to people do as a rule?

certainly not necessary to fast in relation to B12 and IFAB tests.

opinions mixed in relation to folate - as it is related to dietary intake. No idea on ferritin but suspect that isn't very closely related to diet.

Personally I don't bother to fast.

I've read to "skip breakfast" for folate testing as many cereals are now fortified with folic acid which may elevate levels.

Here is an extract from the below website:

How Do I Prepare for a Folic Acid Test?

Before you take a folic acid test, notify your doctor about any supplements or medications you may be taking, as some can interfere with the results. Your doctor will probably tell you to avoid food and liquids for six to eight hours before the folic acid test. It’s usually preferable to fast all night and to have an early appointment the next morning.

However, I'm not a medically trained person so if you are concerned, check with your doctor or maybe your pharmacist.

I do but normally because thyroid tests are also done at same time. Normally, early as possible, no food only water and take medication after test.

Well, as usual, despite fatigue, unsteadiness, etc. my blood results are all "normal". B12 is in the 600s (although I have been supplementing with sublingual 1000ug), folate is above minimum, and all antibody tests are negative. The only possible culprit is ferritin which is 17 (15-300). Although it's within range, it looks suspiciously close to the lower limit. Not sure what to do next. See GP (they're particularly stubborn if things are "in range")? Or just supplement? Ideally, I'd like to know what could be causing such a result because my diet is varied - unless it's something to do with taking omeprazole for the last 20years. Any suggestions?
