Low ferritin/b12, other things!

Hello,

I recently went to the GP as my periods are ridiculously heavy since I had my second child (who is now three, but I put off going to the GP). I am probably going to have an ultrasound in case that's caused by fibroids, and also had a blood test. I got the results and have a couple of questions; my phone appt with the GP isn't until the end of the week and I'd like to be prepared.

Haemo level 27.8 p (27-32)

Haemo concentration 322 g/l (320-360)

ferritin 8ng/ml (15-350)

folate 5.4 ng/ml (3-18)

b12 183 ng/l (200-960)

My questions are, if anyone is able to help: how likely is the above to be solely due to heavy periods? Should I ask for a thyroid function test; my sister and cousin both have underactive thyroids? I don't think I'm coeliac, and my b12 doesn't appear that low.. does anything jump out at anyone in those figures?

Thanks in advance!

Have you read the pinned posts (bottom of the page if on a mobile)? These explain more reasons that can cause your low B12 and any symptoms that you should report to your doctor.

BTW I have been anaemic on and off for years due to fibroids. If you do have them, do some research, don't be pressured into a hysterectomy if you don't want one. There are different procedures that are not always on offer unless you ask! If you are unsure you can always message me. Good luck with the appointment and yes, ask about a Thyroid test.
