What did your doctor advise about your high ferritin level? Was a complete iron panel done (serum iron, ferritin, transferrin, TIBC, iron saturation %)?
If an iron panel was done, this chart can help point out what is going on. But the ferritin result by itself is not enough information to go off of. irondisorders.org/Websites/...
Not said anything but referred me to hospital to see an endo. Don't know why iron is high. But also concerned about the T3 and vitamin deficiency. What do u think?
Low vitamin D is really common so that result isn't too surprising. I think it is a good idea to follow up on the referral and get a full iron panel done to figure out why your ferritin level is high. I wouldn't recommend taking any supplements until you've had a chance to have further testing done. Vitamin D is actually a hormone made by the body, so you can get more of it by being outside in the sun more often. There are some foods that are high in vitamin D also:
Fatty fish, like tuna, mackerel, and salmon
Foods fortified with vitamin D, like some dairy products, orange juice, soy milk, and cereals
Beef liver
Cheese
Egg yolks
To get vitamin D from food, fish is a good option. Six ounces of cooked salmon has more than 600 international units (IU).
How did you get on regarding ferritin? I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and recently have had Ferritin level of 220.5. Someone suggested haematomachrosis but I'm not sure if ferritin high enough for that? Seeing GP next week.
