What country do you live in xeena ?

You look to be deficient in Vitamin B9 (Folate) Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D.

The "once a month for three months" injections of B12 might improve things for you but I feel your doctor should also prescribe you with both Vitamin D and Folate.

I am not a medically qualified person but there are thos on her who will be able to give you good advice.

I wish you well

Hi there clivealive - i live in England - yes i am deficient in both of them - i was diagnosed with pernicious anemia two years ago - they gave me one injection then and no more since - so i changed doctors and i had an injection for B12 last Tuesday - and i will get another one in a months time and then again a month after that to make three injections - i feel absolutely awful as this has been going on since 2011 also i am hypothyroid and cannot get treated for that - the doctors are absolutely rubbish - i have no faith in them at all. Thank you for your reply - i wish you well to.

That is absolutely iniquitous treatment for P.A. xeena :(

When I was diagnosed with P.A. 45 years ago I was "threatened" with having to eat raw liver three times a day - I think you would be better off doing that than remaining with your current practice.

Any doctor or nurse worth their salt will know that P.A. is for life and Hydroxocobamalin B12 injections should be given "at least" every 8 weeks and more often where there are neurological symptoms according to both N.I.C.E and B.N.F guidelines.

Gambit62 Hidden and Deuto have given you excellent advice.

If you have a diagnosis of B12 and you haven't had any injections for a two years you are being under-treated and you are not being treated in accordance with guidelines.

The fact that you have problems with multiple vitamins and minerals does suggest that you have an absorption problem and PA would fit with that.

Please look through the pinned posts and put together a letter to your GP pointing out the guidelines - not having had any B12 for 2 years then they should really start again with loading doses - 3x week until symptoms stop improving (review at 3 weeks) followed by maintenance doses every 2 months - this is because your levels are dangerously low again and you have neurological symptoms. They also need to treat your folate problems and your vitamin D problems. Treatment for your B12 deficiency should start 24-48 hours before treatment of the folate.

Would also recommend that you consider joining the PAS proper and contacting them for support

Hi there Gambit 62 - and thank you for the advice - the nurse at my practice is adamant that she will only give me two more injections - i have demanded to see the doctor and i will hand him a strong letter of complaint - i have been through seven surgeries in the last six years and not one of them take any notice of my symptoms - i have shown them all of my private blood tests that i have had done since 2011 - i really do not want to live in this pain any more as it has gone on for so long - but i will see what the doctor has to say. Once again - thank you and best wishes and good health to you.

xeena, I totally support what others have said already - particularly about joining the PAS and seeking Martyn Hooper's help.

I have read back over your posts on other HU sites - eg Thyroid UK - and am appalled at the lack of treatment etc you have been subjected to over the last few years. You were obviously supposed to have received loading B12 injections every other day two years ago and only received one due to the attitude and actions of your doctor and nurses.

But there is also another area of particular concern for me. Like you, I have PA, but also have kidney problems (including repeated uric acid kidney stones) and mild gout due to high uric acid.

Your uric acid levels are very high and the advice you have been given re avoiding smoking, alcohol, meat, shellfish etc is all in line with usual gout prevention measures, but the reality is that high uric acid is often due to your body producing too much uric acid rather than what you absorb from food etc.

Are you under any specialist treatment (urology) for this and/or being treated with medication, eg Allopurinol? You should be, particularly as you have only one kidney.

If you have a confirmed diagnosis of PA on file and all those symptoms and a refusal of proper treatment I'd be making my first point of call at a no win no fee solicitors then use the £1000's in compensation to fund private treatment.

There's no way if you've been diagnosed you should be subjected to such neglect.

Your lack of appropriate treatment is disgusting! You need a decent doctor. The advice on here is excellent but you are in dire need of help.

Good luck to find a decent doctor.

Hi there - i have already spent thousands on private tests for Thyroid as well as B12 and Pernicious anemia - it has been ongoing since 2011 - and still i cannot get any where with the doctors. I would say a great big thank you to all of you lovely people for your help and advice - i will go to the PAS site and ask Martyn Hooper for his guidance and keep my fingers crossed. God bless you all and keep well.

Hi there Marymary7 - i have changed surgeries six or seven times since 2011 and i cannot get a decent doctor to help me - i am not very successful at getting an appointment either - it usually takes at least four months for me to get lucky and get one - but i would like to thank you for your time in replying to me - god bless and keep well.

xeena , I am fine thanks. You are the one who needs Gods help...and I am not really religious.

A good idea to contact Martyn Hooper, and Dr. Chandy is brilliant too. Your health problems sound very complex. I wish you good luck in finding the answers and your health.
