Tired of being Sick and Tired.....:(

Hi, I am 61 years old. I was in Hospital with hyponatremia last of Sept. 2016. They can't find what is causing it. I am on fluid management and was told to take zinc, vitd3, magnesium and milk thistle. I also have hepc. take cholesterol med. mobic and blood pressure med. I have been drained and tired since 2012... Co Q-10 helps me with lots of energy but lowered my blood sodium so had to stop. Now I'm back tired and drained. I hate feeling this way. It is bad enough to suffer with pain etc. but to not be able to do barely anything at all is HORRIBLE! I had a neighbor tell me to take vit B6. I don't know if that will affect my blood sodium or not. She said it would give me energy and would also help my liver. If ANYONE COULD PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE I WOULD BE SO---GRATEFUL!!! PLEASE HELP!! Sincerely; lindaj

Hi Linda, did they test cortisol (fasting, first thing in the morning)? How is your potassium? Do you have any other symptoms of adrenal insufficiency such as hyperpigmentation, nausea, diarrhea? mayoclinic.org/diseases-con...

I personally wouldn't take B6 on its own, and too much isn't good. Also I doubt it will do anything for sodium levels - that is controlled by a completely different mechanism. In general a good B complex can be useful, but if you feel so bad, I would push the doctors to try and find the cause (always a difficult task!). You might want to post labs, though this is primarily a B12 deficiency forum so you might not get a lot of responses. Are you on thyroid meds or any other medication?

Sorry you're feeling so bad!

HI, My potassium is fine. They said my thyroid function is a little low. I take cholesterol med, mobic for R.A. , Amlodipine for blood pressure, Cetirizine for allergies, clonazepam 1mg. daily for anxiety, Symbicort, Ventolin, and Spiriva for Copd. My adrenals are not working right for some reason?? I FEEL 100 yrs. old. +. I just can barely do small things. Mostly lie down because I am so tired 90% of the time. I need to find out why? I have a neighbor with bone cancer and cirrhosis and she has all kinds of energy. She can't understand as I can't why I'm so wiped out?? Been this way since 2012 and is just getting worse. I used to exercise etc. I HATE THIS!! Is there another forum I could follow? Hyponatremia and R.A with hepc?? ThankYOU SO---VERY MUCH!!!!! BLESS YOU!!!

I'm very sorry to hear that. I've felt like a 100 years old for quite a long time too, and I'm only nearly 40. Getting thyroid and vitamins (e.g. iron, vit D) optimized and starting treatment for adrenal insufficiency went a long way towards helping my fatigue. The adrenal insufficiency made me totally couch-bound... I

can't explain the extreme exhaustion and pain that accompanied it. At one point I was on sick leave for 3 months just from the "exhaustion." Many

of us with hormone issues find that we are totally shattered! Often misdiagnosed as "chronic fatigue." With treatment I did great for a while but went downhill again, but the B12 seems to be helping now.

They said my thyroid function is a little low.

That, together with the anxiety, high cholesterol, and high BP definitely points to hypothyroidism as a possible cause of your fatigue / exhaustion. I'd highly recommend posting any recent labs you have - especially thyroid labs - to the Thyroid UK forum on healthunlocked here: healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk

While the doctors say "little low", it may or may not in reality just be a "little" low. If you don't have copies of your results, you should ask your practice, because you are entitled to them. The people on this or the Thyroid forum can help you acquire your records if your GP gives is uncooperative.

I'd also suggest taking a look at the symptoms of adrenal insufficiency and perhaps asking for a cortisol test (fasting, first thing in the morning). The reason I suggest this is that, first, I assume the doctors have ruled out your medications as a cause of the hyponatremia, and second, hypothyroidism shouldn't cause hyponatremia, so there might still be something else going on.

Keep on investigating! I agree that it's not normal to feel so bad, but there IS a reason, and hopefully you can get to the bottom of it soon.

Thank you Jade!! I will do that. I took a co Q-10 today so I can get up and go get my med. refills in the morning. I am Bed Bound. I see Dr. again on Dec. 7th. I am going to get to the bottom of this. I know I'm 61 but I have a friend from church just turned 90. She doesn't even use a cane!! WOW!! So happy for YOU!! GLAD YOU FEEL GREAT AGAIN! I'LL FOLLOW SUIT AS SOON AS I FIN OUT WHAT IS WRONG! I DO HAVE SOME B-12 VITAMINS HAVEN'T TAKEN IN A LONG TIME...NEED TO GET SOME MORE!! I'LL TRY ANYTHING AT THIS POINT!! :) THANK YOU SO---MUCH!!!!!!! GOD BLESS ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck!!

If you haven't taken B12 in a while, now might be a good time to get B12 and folate tested, especially if they've been low in the past.
