Are these test results from before you started receiving B12 shots.

Are you being given folate as well as the B12 and vit D?

Whilst the body needs vit c to be able to absorb iron that doesn't necessarily mean that you have to take vit c with the iron - as you may have vit c from your diet hanging around in the gut. One study implied that the amounts of vit c needed are very small - however, it certainly wouldn't hurt to be taking the tablets with some vit c. I can't really comment further on the iron.

Yes before I had b12 shots or tablets... Yes given me Folic acid, but apparently not the right sort... Not sure what to buy... So to recap have been given Vit d and Folic acid b12 injections 1 every 2 weeks for 4 then every 3 weeks 😊

Hi scorpiojo,

My ferritin level was about the same as yours- I believe mine was 30 and the naturopath I saw told me to take 50 mgs. a day. I used Solgar Gentle iron as well. My actual GP told me I "was just a little bit anemic" (is that like being a little bit pregnant?) and no need to do anything, but I felt awful. That and I was in the grey zone with B12 levels but was having lots of neurological symptoms. The good news is after about 7 months, my ferritin level is now 76. That is my story on the iron. Hope it helps. If you do increase your intake, be sure to get it checked every could of months to be on the safe side! :-) Good luck!

I am going to write another quick post... The Solgar iron is 25mg and says one a day so you were on two tablets or twice what I am... Thanks for your comment I'll stick with it...I wish I could see someone good with vits tbh as it's clearly not something GPs take seriously

That's why I ended up going to a naturopathic doctor. They know so much more about vitamins than GPs. Here in Oregon, there can write prescriptions for medicines as well.

Obviously, I am not a doctor but since the range is so big on iron, then you have a way to go before you get too much. I think 60-80 is an optimal range. When my ferritin came back at 76, I was told to stop taking it. If you were just to take the one capsule, it would take a long time. At two, as I've said, it took 7 months. I did take a vitamin c with it, 250mgs.

Everyone is different so I would get levels checked every few months.

Hope you feel better soon!

When I was taking iron sulfate I used to have it with a glass of water with one tablet of Tesco Effervescent Vitamin C. It's fairly cheap, quite tasty and contains citric acid as well as ascorbic acid (vit. C). Both of those acids grab hold of iron atoms and take them into solution - which is required if they're going to be absorbed.

Thanks mate... I appreciate the tip and help with what to buy... Can you understand why he'd want a new blood test after only a month 😊

A retest would, most likely, be to check patient compliance.
