Fasting

Hi. I hope someone can give me a definite answer as I have seen some people say yes and some no. Confused!

Are you supposed to fast before a blood test for B12 deficiencies?

Thanks

Nope, at least I've never been asked to do so. There's not really any chance of B12 in food being enough to alter blood levels to any detectable degree.

No need to fast for a B12 test - unless it is being done with other tests that did need fasting eg a fasting blood sugar test (a possible of multiple causes of symptoms are being investigated).

Whoever ordered the test should have told you if you needed to fast before hand, if that was the case.
