Not something else.......?

I went to doctors recently as for a couple of months now I have been getting terrible sinus type headaches and tinnitus. I thought I'd just got a head cold and tried various over the counter tablets which did nothing!

Anyway, one doctor gave me a nasal spray which was useless and after looking into my ears and throat said it all looked fine?

I went back a few days later to see another doctor who, looked into my ears and said the right ear looked red and puffy, and said I was to have my blood taken again, took my BP (which was high-as always when I see a doctor), and prescribed me antibiotics as she felt I had an infection in my sinuses!

My fbc came back ok, my b12 was on the high side as I'd only just had my blood taken two weeks before my blood test. But there was a note from the lab advising I had another blood test done in six months as I had a borderline thyroid problem?

My first reaction was "not something else!" And for whatever reason I am really concerned about it?!

I am so fed up! Like many women my age I'm going through the peri-menopause and as if that wasn't enough I could now have a thyroid problem!!

The nurse I saw mentioned that having my b12 jab so near to my blood test can throw the thyroid reading off, and this is common?!

Has anyone else come across this?

As I inject every two weeks my blood tests are always taken some 10 days after a B12 jab, my thyroid readings have never been off, so that one I am sceptical about. If the NHS blood test implies your thyroid is not functioning right then it may well mean you my now have a thyroid problem, time will tell. But in the end its only a good thing if that is found to be the case, as then you will get treatment and a chance to get back on the road of good health. Every cloud has a silver lining...Marre.

Yes.

Try to get your GP to refer you for an head x-ray. That's the only thing which will tell if your sinuses are impacted. I went on for 7 years with docs telling me I didn't have a problem and by the time a (brilliant) GP referred me to an ENT specialist who did the x-ray my sinuses were so impacted my breathing was reduced by 75%. I have to be one of the few people who had a sinus op done in 3 weeks as an emergency.

All the stuff you are getting, including the b12 deficiency and thyroid and all the other ...stuff are simply symptoms that something else is wrong and you have an underlying problem.

Getting B12 levels checked after you've started treatment is completely pointless. Everywhere you look now it confirms that.
