Hi,

I'm sorry you feel so down, and yes alcohol realy feels like it eats up B12 and leaves you with a B12 hang over (as in all the symptoms of a B12 def back). Perhaps find out if your serum folate has been tested recently. Low serum folate is associated with depression, and I do find folic acid tabs seem to lift my mood. Mind you sun shine and summer lift me far more!!

Some info on alcohol and B12 in this (info from old PAS forum):

I hope this helps a bit,

Kind regards,

Marre.

I suffered from depression and anxiety for years and really didn't expect the mood to lift but it did about 3 months after I started using very high doses of B12 - about 3mg a day - mostly through a nasal spray.

So, for me I think it was among the first symptoms to emerge and hence took a while before supplementing B12 had any effect. I was on shots every 2-3 months and that really didn't seem to be helping me at all and I just seemed to be getting worse which was why I ended up going it alone - though I still go back for maintenance shots - to keep the problem on my records ... and would take the opportunity of regular blood tests just to make sure that there isn't anything else going on.

I find that alcohol can totally knock out my B12 - don't drink much but do like the odd tipple and if I have the odd tipple then I make up for it with supplementing some more.

Also supplement folate and think that also helps though I don't think my folate has ever been that low, but you need folate to metabolise and use B12 and I think I must get through quite a bit.

do u inject the b12 and folate as a combination??? or do u take folic acid as a tab? thanks for ur comment. I didnt realise what a tough journey this was going to be. also do u get ur injections from goldpharma?

mainly use nasal sprays - have both hydroxo and methyl-cobalamin as I find first works best for me on neuropsychiatric (depression and anxiety) and second works best for me with neuro symptoms like numbness, tingling, pains.

I eat a lot of green veg so folate should be quite high anyway but also supplement with tablets.

I do inject B12 (hydroxo) which I source from Mycare.de - first time is a bit of a pain as they want payment upfront but it's easy after that as you can then use credit/debit card and orders seem to take no more than a few days - but that was just the first one that was recommended to me. Believe Marre used goldpharma as do lots of others.

The one good thing about B12 is that you can't overdose on it so that leaves you free to experiment and really find out what works properly for you ... though having said that some people (with megaloblastic anaemia do experience initial problems with hypokalemia so if megaloblastic anaemia was one of your problems you probably ought to get your doctor to keep an eye on you

cdc.gov/ncbddd/b12/patients...

When I got the levels right for me I went from struggling to walk to being quite happy perched at top of a ladder pruning a grape vine in the space of 2 weeks - it just took longer for the mood problems to really lift ... and even on the days when I have a maintenance shot I still find that the grumpiness and some of the suicidal thoughts start to come back within 24 hours. Its different for everyone though and I think that is the real tragedy of the way it is treated - the text book/guidance doesn't reflect just how varied people's responses can be.

guess you are talking about mycare.de.

I have enough german to manage it without too much of a problem but can understand.

This is the direct link to the stuff I order - I order the 100x generally

mycare.de/online-kaufen/b12...

goldpharma would probably be easier as that does have an English version
