So had my result from H pylori test today, Negative! I am now in the process of writing my 2nd letter to the practice manager, this will be my final letter, if no joy i will be complaining to the health commissioner! I was today looking through my previous blood tests, my b12 was 1,700 when having injections, that was November last year, in feb it had dropped to 351 in 3 months, its now 217 on last blood test, im feeling terrible and not really even up to writing a letter but this has to be done, im not giving up.

Good for you Padeficiant12. Good idea to try and use the points I left in a previous reply to you...and print out the guidelines and evidence also and include that with your letter...your GP can't call that internet rubbish!

If this doesn’t work, suggest you contact the PAS and ask Martyn Hooper to intervene on your behalf (as per Gambit's previous suggestion / information).

Impressed at your perseverance. Well done and good luck 🤞

Hi,

I feel angry on your behalf but so glad that you are not giving up.

Have you considered contacting HDA patient care trust if you are in UK?

HDA patient care trust helpline 0207 935 8366

They are a UK charity who can offer free consultations with specialist doctors for people who need a second opinion on diagnosis or treatment.

I believe they have access to haematologists, neurologists, gastro-enterologists etc.

They are usually quick to respond to telephone and on-line enquiries and if they feel they can help, will need a full medical history.

"had my result from H pylori test today, Negative"

Which sort of test for H pylori did you have? Stool, breath, blood or biopsy via endoscopy?

patient.info/health/dyspeps...

Above link says that patients having breath or stool test should not have taken antibiotics in month preceding test. If you were on antibiotics it might mean your test result is unreliable.

I have also read that if symptoms suggestive of H Pylori infection continue after a negative result in test then a tissue biopsy via endoscopy may be considered.

Like you, I kept fighting to get B12 treatment.

I always tried to be polite but my persistence irritated my then GPs and affected the GP/patient relationship. Eventually pressure was put on me to leave. I'm mentioning this in case your relationship with practice deteriorates.

In your letter, have you included all your B12 results, showing the continually dropping levels?

I believe there have been forum members in past who have plotted results on a graph. This might show the dropping levels more dramatically and get GP's attention.

Hi sleepybunny,

I had a stool test for H pylori, in my letter i included all my symptoms, and blood results showing dropping levels, i included this in my 1st letter as well, the nurse i see said she could see levels dropping but would only agree to monitor, and re test in december, i am worried that they may push me to leave the practice, but its a medical centre and i never see a doctor only a nurse, so as relationships go, i haven’t been able to make any in the centre to spoil as such. I am sending my second letter along with actual printouts of evidence that they are under treating me.

You deserve better treatment, Padeficiant12 - and B12 deficiency deserves to be taken far more seriously.

Who sent you for H pylori test- surely beyond nurse's remit ???

I have a very good practice: great GP, very efficient nurses - but even so, I have still shouted at them/ cried/ barely understood them at my worst. Same with consultants of which there have been many. This was a difficult time for them, but so much worse for me. I think that was understood. No-one pushed me to leave the practice.

These are clear outward signs of deficiency: dramatic mood-swings, impatience, irritability, personality changes, failing memory and cognitive problems.

In a good practice, this should be a massive warning sign that the poor patient is struggling to function because of a lack of B12. Other physical signs of deterioration: hair, skin, nails, pallor, weight perhaps should be noted- whether GP/ nurse.

If they are not doing any of this for you; WHY NOT ?

Levels alone would indicate you are unable to do anything from now on except deteriorate further.

PS: My level was 196 ng/L and the range started at 197 ng/L. - Luck ???

Hello Cherylclaire,

The nurse sent me for H pylori test, she did mention endoscopy as well, but wouldn’t agree that somehow my tummy issues were related to my b12 deficiency, im sitting here this after noon, after an exciting morning, my daughter just had her first scan and shes due her baby in may, but im

So tired now after being out for a couple of hours, my surgery just doesn’t seem to understand how poorly i feel, of my b12 levels were 217 in sept they have probably dropped further now, feel like i have to be at deaths door before they will help me :(
