Anyone using mannitol to help with their Parkinson’s symptoms?

Mannitol
I do...
Yes. 1 tsp in my coffee every morning. I believe it helps with brain fog and stumbling speech, as well as sense of smell.
My husband does. I’m unsure if it helps with all the other changes in diet, supplements it is hard to see what causes what.
One thing I am wary of is that it can feed bacteria. My husband has had a faeces test which showed an overgrowth of corynebacterium amylatum which is often found in PD people and it is not a good bacteria. This bacteria feeds on mannose and not all bacteria do . Not sure if his is due to taking the mannose or whether he had it already. He stopped taking mannose for a while but then restarted as we decided that since it eats glucose too the small amount of extra mannose shouldn’t matter. Not sure if we are right or not 😕
I have read that mannitol is not recommended for those who take anti-coagulant drugs. I would like my mom to try it, but she is also taking cardio aspirin as an anti-coagulant. Are any of you taking anti-coagulant drugs?
well im taking an asprin every day dangilio i have been taking one every day also mannitol one teaspoon twice a day.no problems so far.maybe give it a try for awhile.regards.
I have recently been using mannitol, 20 gr. per day. it is a sweetener. They are packs of 10 gr. each that you can easily melt in water, milk, tea etc. My mannitol it is produced by an industry of northern Italy. I do not know if it stops or slows down the progression of Parkinson's, it would be too good. What I can tell you is that it provides a sense of general well-being, both physical and mental. There are not side effects except for a gas production. It can be taken forever. Given that the product is harmless, you could try it quietly.
hi fed1000, are you italian? i'm from reggio emilia..where do you take mannitol ?
Is this the same mannitol you are taking?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mannitol
if so, it makes no mention of neurological use
unless reduction of cranial pressure benefits some how
am I missing something?
It is believed to encourage the autophagy of alpha-synuclein. Other alcohol sugars are also believed to have the same effect.
Mannitol is a sugar alcohol or polyol and it has other known effects that aren't outlined in the Wikipedia article. Mannitol acts as a prebiotic also and this may be an important method of action for its use in PD that is not often mentioned. I wrote a little about that aspect here:
