Snorting Mannitol ?

Well, one never knows what they will find on here. I was looking for PQQ info and happened upon “snorting mannitol.” I can’t comment on bc it’s not a forum I’m on.

I’m aware of the results of the recent mannitol trial. I am 100% certain mannitol enabled my improved ability to smell. I was taking nothing else at the time.

Anyways, snorting it? Is this something anyone else does?

Sunvox hasn't been around here for a while, but he was a very... uh, ...spirited poster! I wouldn't take that literally, but you never know ! He dug deep into his research, that's for sure.

I once tried mixing my own nasal Mannitol spray. I recall no benefits or adverse side effects.

I was interested in a means of bypassing the gut. The biggest problem with Mannitol is absorption. 99.99% passes straight through my system. I read somewhere Intra-nasal delivery of drugs allows the drug to directly enter the brain by bypassing the BBB. I don’t recall the brand, but I tried to order a Mannitol nasal spray from Italy – I was unable to get them to accept my credit card (it was not marketed for PD). I also, pondered why a Clincal Trial hasn’t tried used injection.

Wild hair... I just ordered ebay.com/itm/113988970128

Mannitol inhaled is used as a lung treatment. In plants mannitol is critical in managing plant-pathogen defenses. Mannitol is an osmo-regulator. I am working with a researcher who is convinced that PD is connected to autoimmunity resulting from Mycobacterium avium pars tuberculosis. I’m also focused on the tuberculosis connection. The probiotic I developed converts other dietary sugars to mannitol. There is clear osmotic stress in PD. I think mannitol helps this as well.

What are your thoughts on Trehalose for PD? Trehalose is said to reduce protein clumping. It can have adverse effects on gut biome though.

The research you are doing and the TB connection sound fascinating. Osmotic stress could be related to gene expression, right?

I’m confused about your position on zinc and will research this further. From what I have read PWP have excess iron in the brain and are especially susceptible to too much selenium but zinc is new to me.

Many, myself included, are taking Ambroxol. I’m concerned about it’s effect on the gut and the reduction of mucus.

"I am working with a researcher who is convinced that PD is connected to autoimmunity"

I believe that PD along with ALZ and MND are a result of the activation of NMDA receptor antibodies - the trigger for glutamate excitotoxicity.

A quick search of Mycobacterium avium pars tuberculosis (MAP) describes its role in hypomagnesemia.

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/251...

Magnesium functions as a NMDA receptor antagonist to restore the function of damaged nerve cells and reduce abnormal excitatory signals. So does Ketamine and Memantine.

The role gut dysbiosis plays in neurodegenerative conditions is a foregone conclusion. But is it the cause or an effect? I believe it is the effect of our diet and the intensive chemical use in the production of food that allows proliferation of this microbe (and others) and contributes to the reduction of amino acid production and malabsorption of magnesium.

Mannitol you s not used by humans but feeds a better profile of gut bacteria.

I find it interesting that they chose Mannitol as the drug to compare nasal/brain adsorption to an HIV drug. This does not mention anything about PD. Also, this used a Pressurized Olfactory Delivery Device and not a simple spray. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/pmc/a...

I did try it for a bit but gave up and just continue to take about 3 grams per day in coffee. Disclaimer I still don't really have enough symptoms for a diagnosis after 5 years though on occasion have stiff legs, poor handwriting and a grumpy face.

My symptoms were rolling my thumb and pointing finger on my right hand. I was confirmed via a DatScan. Also, your reaction to l-dopa is often used as a diagnostic tool.

As far as snorting - mannitol is often used to cut street drugs.

Sunvox is still present on HU with another ID as he revealed but I don't remember which one, he could answer you in person.I vaguely remember that he said he stopped using mannitol for side effects on his nostrils, while continuing to use the thiamina, as can be deduced from his subsequent posts. Sunvox is ill with ataxia which is another serious neurodegenerative disease.
