Naprosyn 500mg twice a day

Has anyone else been prescribed this? My GP prescribed it a few days ago for the pain I'm constantly in.

I have been on Naproxen for about 2yrs, I am also on other medication for Lumber Spine Stenosis, I think it helped when I first was given it ,scared to come off it now just in case it is helping with my pain control.

If you are taking Naproxen as I am, have been taking it for about 3 yrs now you must take omeprozole with it, Naproxen can cause damage to the stomache wall, omeprozole prevents it.

Generic name is Naproxen - It is a non-steroidal anti inflammatory drug (NSAID), just like Ibuprofen/Nurofen is.

Usual side effects of such drugs: short-term in particular is it's effect on the stomach... some years back my Father had emergency surgery for life threatening stomach Perforation caused by it, so take extra care in this respect and read the patient information leaflet, often taking with food is a good idea, but there are also drugs to reduce the impact they have in this respect!

Longer term.. NSAIDs are a bit hard on various organs particularly the heart and kidneys etc.

Suggest Google for "Naproxen" and "NSAIDs" for background, they are a very well documented category of drugs!

Omeprazole has been linked to bone fractures. You could try a cox 2 NSAID as they are supposed to be kinder to the gut. Have been taking daily for over a decade. So far so good. Any time I've stopped the pain becomes so bad I can't get out of bed. If you don't know if they are working stop taking and see what happens.
