Ive been suffering with back pain for nearly 2 yrs now. Ive had 2 microdicectomy's, the last one in Oct 2012 and I'm in agony yet again.I have an mri this week and I'm expecting the results to be bad. I'm on slow release morphine, nortriptyline and naproxen. My work have given me 2 warnings and if I have more time off I'm going to loose my job. I couldnt be any lower and I can barely walk or drive, trying to cope with the pain is bad enough but I cant afford to loose my job as well. could i register a dissability? i don't know where to turn?

Hi John sorry to hear you are in so much pain.Firstly will your work not medically retire you seeing as how you can longer do the job(without pain) ? secondly ..try dla..dla is not about a condition ,it is about how that condition affects your mobility and care and if it is long term or temporay, ie: a broken will not get you dla,but arthritis may . Something I learnt when looking to apply for DLA myself was it is the affect on mobility and care of yourself that is important,if these are affected severly then you may be entitled to DLA,just because someone has an artificial limb does not mean they will get dla it depends how they are affected in their day to day life.
I was medicaly retired in oct 2011 due to my back and leg pain
good luck to you
Hello, thanks for your reply. Do I just apply for DLA or do I need to be registered disabled. Its early days regarding work but they don't even seem to aknowledge the fact I may have a disability. My day to day life is plagued with pain but I keep struggling on . I people can see Im in agony. I only went off sick when I physically could not walk and was on morphine.

hello,i,m sorry to hear the problems you have been going through. I am currently having the same problems with my back, just over 4 years ago i woke up in terrible pain to my lower back, and so much so that i couldn,t move with the amount of pain, as it got even worse when i tried moving. Going into AandE they just dosed me up with morpth . Once i had my MRI scan it showed that my lower disc is crmbling and as a result i am now trying to larn to cope with cronic back pain. Most of the time at first i was crying with the amount of pain i was in, but very slowly the pain has reduced, although i am still on morph patches and still have alot of days where i,m in terrible pain. The sergans have said they won,t oparate on my back. In this time i haven,t worked because i couldn,t hardly move for year,s . but am getting around alot more now. i did recieve disability allowance for the first few years , they say i,m not intitled to any now. I would love to go back to work because i,m fed up and bored at home. But i worry that i won,t find anything to work around my health problem. AS it,s a health problem , they shouldn,t be allowed to sack you? If your sick, there not allowed, isn,t it the same? x take care.
