Morphine and Wheezing

My mother was out on Morphine Patches some months ago and have had a horrific wheeze since. She's had xrays, blood tests etc to check for infections but all is clear. She's now being weened off but we're wondering if anyone else has experienced this wheeze?

I was warned by my medics years ago that morphine makes you work harder to breathe, however the benefits of the pain relief normally outweighs the inconvenience of noisy breathing.

Has she been to a pain clinic? perhaps she would be OK on a smaller less frequent dose
