Hi everyone. I am hyper mobility diagnosed . So a month ago I randomly started with a tight chest and pain in the centre of the chest area. I am asthmatic and hypermobile. Pretty much all my pain is around my scapulas but I do get rib pain and sensitivity especially around the bra area. I’ve had steroids , antibiotics and no change. It got so bad this week I went to an and e as the gp said too. They did full tests bloods , ecg and X-ray and apparently I’m perfect. They have said it is Costochondritis and to stay warm and take paracetamol:/. It is inflammation of the rib cage I feel so fed up dealing with pain was bad enough now I can’t even walk my dog comfortably the one thing I get enjoyment from. The pain is In the centre of my chest. Has any one had a similar experience? Thank you.

costochondritis
Hi, I am very sorry to hear that you are struggling with this. Costochondritis is actually very common, so you are not the only one to be suffering with it. It can be very painful and can take a long time to resolve.
Because it is an inflammation of the joints between the ribs and the sternum (it can also happen in other areas of the rib cage too, around the back and down the sides) could you take some NSAIDs when it is bad? Ibuprofen in addition to paracetamol might help.
And paracetamol is best taking four times a day ever day for a while, not just when it gets bad.
It will get better, but try to rest when it is bad. And remember that inflammation in the body affects the brain and can make us feel depressed. It isn't you being depressed, it is your brain struggling with the inflammation. It too will pass.
