intercostal nerve pain

I have been suffering from arthritis related nerve compression. Sciatica for too many years and cervical spondylitis. Normally the neck pain radiates down my arm . Right now I have terrible pain around my upper torso. Dr. told me the intercostal nerve is pinched. Very new to me, and meds are not helping. I can’t wear a bra and it hurts to breathe. New pain is always scary. Anyone else have this? I was in bed with grueling migraine for two days. Now this😬 Thanks for letting me vent, no one else to talk too that understands chronic pain. I hope you’re all having a easy pain day.

I am not sure about the intercostal nerves for abdominal pain but I had an intercostal nerve block when k broke all of my ribs in multiple places and it didn’t help at all with the pain.

Did your doctor speak to you about any possible treatments to help with your pain?

thanks for responding. My arthritis dr. is the one that told me it was coming from my neck. I have had the usual neck nerve compression causing pain down my arm with tingly fingers. This is a different nerve, so basically do physiotherapy, use heat and wear cervical collar when moving around all day. I can’t even imagine your pain with broken ribs. I hope that has healed by now. I have the option of nerve block but have been hesitant to use shots into my spine. Sorry it didn’t work for you. I take tramadol and muscle relaxer for pain. They only help in bed and resting, which I will be doing very soon.

Yes thankfully mine has healed now as that was in 2020 but I couldn’t leave the house for nearly 8 months it was horrific I basically lived laying on the sofa. I have osteoporosis so they took about 2 years to heal and they have healed a bit bent so I have terrible issues leaning back but I’m glad they have healed as it was a very scary time especially during Covid it was not easy to get help. I had zero pain relief I had morphine but it sends me crazy and I can’t sleep so I had to stop that I tried the lidocaine patches which were rubbish and then had the nerve block which my body reacted to and I ended up with full body convulsions and admitted to a&e then they put me on diazepam which did really help as I was finally able to sleep which helped my body to heal as it was a nightmare.

Yes personally after my experience i wouldn’t recommend the nerve blocks after they caused more harm than good with me.

Good luck with your physio and all the things they have suggested I really hope they help as any pain that’s constant is awful xx
