Medical Cannabis

I have Severe Spinal Stenosis and due to also being diagnosed with Heart Failure following a Triple Bypass and Mitral Valve Repair the only pain relief I’ve now been given is Oramorph.

I’ve always looked on this as the “last resort “ for pain relief but over the last several days the pain has become almost unbearable in my back and radiating into both legs.

I'm now having difficulty actually walking. My recent MRI Scan has confirmed further deterioration.

The pain has been so severe that even the Oramorph is failing to offer any relief.

In desperation I’ve been looking at Medicinal Cannabis. I’m in the UK and I think Specialist Prescriptions can be obtained!

Does anyone have any experience of using Medical Cannabis to relieve pain?

Kind regards

David

Hi Dave, really sorry to be negative but medical cannabis didn't really do anything for my pain, which was a lot milder than yours. What it did do was allow me to relax in a way I couldn't do before, so life was a bit more pleasant. CBD, the fully legal "stripped down" version, helps with relaxation too but the "real thing", with THC, does it in a more profound way. Some people find it actually helps their pain, maybe it's worth a try. This is probably the best way to get hold of it: drugscience.org.uk/t21/

hi dave, I have severe pain and only 3 pain meds, don’t really work when I can’t even get out of bed. I use cannabis in edible form for pain. I bake my own,a bit strong, to help me sleep at night and during the day when needed. This is the only thing that works for rest and sleep when nerve pain gets intolerable. I understand your situation when pain meds don’t work. Where I live it is legal for both medical and recreational purposes. Like the others said it’s not a painkiller but helps me to rest and sleep when I have a pain flare up. I am sorry to hear your pain is getting worse. Hoping you are feeling better.

Hi there.

Thanks for your reply.

In the UK you can get medical cannabis through a private prescription service. It would appear to range around £200 per month?

My pain level is now so bad I can only walk a very short distance (even using a 4 wheeled walker.

When I asked the consultant “will I end up in a wheelchair “? He said “I would walk now while you still can - but it’s not looking good “!

Thanks again for your reply and it’s very reassuring to know I’m not alone with this problem and I wish you all the best for the future.

Kind regards

Dave

Dave, I feel I should warn you about cannabis if you have trouble walking or with your balance. I have balance and dizziness issues from my neck. Cannabis can make you unsteady. I only use it in high doses when I am confined to bed. So please take care as it will make legs wobbly. I was worried I didn’t warn you. I hope feel a bit better today.
