Hi all, I think my dad has venous insufficiency. I was looking up the symptoms and found the terminology today. Made an appointment to see the vein specialist on Tuesday.
Has anyone had treatments for this and their pain's improved? What else do we need to be aware of? Does the blood circulation really just start improving afterwards? Or will the legs be prone to blood clots even more?
Does the dark skin discoloration go away? Or get better? What about the heaviness of the legs?
Hello - when I was 30 - I had a DVT - acute pain and it was swollen and purple. After treatment in hospital and regular warfarin - the skin colour is still not right. It used to be really purple but now it’s a bit better colour. I stopped the warfarin nyself. In terms of heaviness, swollen and colour - I was told by a doctor this can stay.
First, you need to make sure he gets a scan to make sure there isn’t a DVT.

My information might not be correct, but from personnel experience, I can inform you that after have three different blood clots in my left leg; the skin turned colors. The clots weaken veins and blood vessels at times. Once the blood clots came around, I started taking blood thinners (warfarin), which may have contributed to the color deficiency. When clots happen, it slows down circulation and oxygen. As you may know, oxygen is transported through red blood cells. Perhaps the lack of oxygen circulating could be a possibility of skin discoloration. From my own experience this is what I observed. If his leg swells, get a leg compression sock to help the leg out. Best information you can get is from a doctor.
