Having had shingles in January 2022, I've had postherpetic neuralgia ever since.
Couldn't cope with the side effects of amitriptyline. Really didn't want any systemic medicine if I could avoid.
Asked for, and got, Axsain 0.075% capsaicin cream.
Once I realised it can take a few weeks to get going, and it needs to be applied regardless any pain, it has been so, so helpful.
Critical issues:
First couple of weeks, I really noticed its direct effect on my skin. Not painful - warming, even hot. Also noticed a slight effect on my smell and taste. Now - nothing like that.
I set alerts four times a day, 08:00, 13:00, 18:00 and 22:30 and apply as soon as I can.
If I miss a dose, or leave it too long, discomfort/pain gets through.
However, my main reason for posting is to alert anyone using Axsain (or the less potent Zacin) that it will not now be available until June 2023, if then. Teva had promised 1st April. But delayed again.
But at last the PSNC has admitted there is an issue!

The last tube I got was a lucky find in June 2022.
Since then, I've had to buy my own from Germany. ABC Warme Cream. Works at least as well as Axsain. It is non-prescription in Germany. And is slightly less expensive than Axsain!
