I have suffered with rib pain & pain top of my stomach since menopause 5 years ago. I have been to my gp but still no wiser as to what is causing the discomfort. I have tried heat pads & pain killers but neither helps. It’s affecting my mood lately & feel really fed up. Does anyone else have the same feeling? If so please tell me how you get rid of the pain please!
Thank you
Gill

ostochondritis is sometimes known as chest wall pain syndrome, costosternal syndrome or costosternal chondrodynia. Sometimes, swelling accompanies the pain (Tietze syndrome).
What causes costochondritis is unclear. Treatment focuses on easing the pain while waiting for the condition to improve on its own, which can take several weeks or more.
Symptoms
The pain associated with costochondritis usually:
Occurs on the left side of your breastbone
Is sharp, aching or pressure-like
Affects more than one rib
Can radiate to arms and shoulders
Worsens when taking a deep breath, coughing, sneezing or with any chest wall movement
.
Causes
Costochondritis usually has no clear cause. However, costochondritis might be associated with trauma, illness or physical strain, such as severe coughing.
Your pain could be osteochondritis from a vitamin B12 deficiency speaking from experience .Serum b12 requires to be above 550 pmol/l not below 200 like most labs report. This deficiency can cause chest ,bone ,muscle pain & spasms ,gut issues, anxiety, depression, blood clots & ,heart irregularies.
Another thing that can cause Costo is psoriatic arthritis. That is an arthritis that instead of being inside the joint, it can attack were the ligaments joint onto the bone, and there are a lot of ligaments and other tissues between the ribs and between the ribs and the breast bone.
It might be useful to think about all the other symptoms you have because maybe something is the underlying cause of them.
I had similar pain and it turned out to be my gallbladder. I ended up having it removed by emergency surgery but maybe your doctor could refer you for a scan?
Hi Gilly61, I agree with Sunlover56 I also had pain in my rib and it turned out to be gallstones in my gallbladder causing me severe pain, it took 2 years to have the emergency operation with plenty of cancellations but in the end I had the operation and i haven't had the pain since, People have said it could be costochondritis, I don't think it is that because I also suffer from that and it is pain across my chest bone, I get this when I am anxious. I hope this helps you. xx
Thank you for your reply, no it doesn’t get worse with exercise it seems to get worse after eating which is making me think maybe it’s acid reflux related?
I thought I was having a heart attack before my doctor told me I had Costochodritis. I use a Backpod which has transformed my life. Have a look at their website and also see your doctor to get checked out properly... bodystance.co.nz
