Herniated/Buldged disk?

I have had awful back pain since september. I did not injure my back but I remember feeling the exact moment of the onset. I was sat in the car in a slightly hunched position. My upper spine began to feel almost bruised all of a sudden and as though someone had battered it with a hammer several times. It gradually got worse as time went on, 3 months in and I'm suffering constant awful lower back pain, hip ache (which is particularly bad at the moment), rib pain (today it hurts to take a deep breathe in) and shoulder pain. My spine feels sore in certain spots as I run my finger over it with light pressure which I am wondering if this is the area of the herniated or buldged disks as those areas do feel sort or larger than the rest?

I was wondering if these things can occur with a herniated or buldged disk? I am currently on 10mg a night of amitriptyline.

I know people mention nerve pain often with herniated disks but isn't that a sharp feeling of pain down the leg or arm? So far (thank god) I don't have much of that.

I suspect either a rheumatological cause (been a nightmare trying to get the nhs to do anything with regards to this) or a herniated disk and wanted to know if anyone here had any idea of whether my condition points towards the symptoms of herniated disks?

Amy if you suspect a bulging disc please go to A&E when you are in really bad pain, you will have more chance of having a scan. My son kept going to the drs and then saw a physio and they pretty much said take painkillers and rest. He ended up a few weeks later in A & E admitted to hospital, then transferred to a specialist in Leeds to have what they called a damage limitation operation. Thank fully the surgeon was fantastic and got him walking again. I’m not trying to frighten you but sometimes it is more serious than “ just back pain”

Take care xx

I’d recommend seeing a good osteopath, my mum had a serious back problem many years ago and doctors wanted to operate. She saw an osteopath and within a few sessions she was fine and didn’t need surgery.

I’ve been seeing an osteopath for a while but unfortunately hasn’t made any difference and he doesn’t do much. Do you know what your mum had done during sessions?

Sorry no, it was a long time ago and she’s no longer with us☹️. Maybe try another osteopath, I’ve found they vary in expertise greatly.
