The Pain Clinic has suggested I take Tapentadol. I can't find anything about it on the internet. Has anybody taken this drug and could tell me about it.
Pain control: The Pain Clinic has suggested I... - Pain Concern
Pain control
Tapentadol
Hi - oooopppps just made a hash of replying - 2nd time lucky
I was prescribed Tapentadol by the pain clinic as I had exhausted all other types of pain killers. I had to cut down the dosage of some of my other pain killers. I was warned about the symptoms of Seratonin syndrome and if I did get get the symptoms to go straight to A&E, this might end up being admitted to ICU! While I was titrating the med on the second week I experienced some of the symptoms plus I felt dizzy and really not in control of my body. I stopped the drug immediately while waiting for a call back from the pain clinic and my own GP - not an easy thing to arrange as the way things are with the NHS. Turns out I did the right thing and when I managed to speak to the pharmacist at the pain clinic she was not sure what else to prescribe so we agreed to try some of the pain killers that I had tried years ago that had not done a lot for me then but hopefully this time around, as quite a few years have passed, will make a difference.
But just because I had a bad reaction to Tapentadol does not mean that you will. Just get all the information about the side effects that you can and then make an informed choice. My reason for having them prescribed was that I suffer with severe cervical and lumbar stenosis, sciatica and fibromyalgia which started in 2011 and have had operations, injections and a whole host of pain killers but cannot find adequate pain relief.
I hope you manage to find a solution.
Take care,
Asti
