Toe pain: anyone have any info on what this... - Pain Concern
Toe pain
oww that looks so sore. Maybe go to a podiatrist who specialises in foot care?? Because already on antibiotics but now in pain I think you should consult your gp because of new symptom.
The
Hmm this is starting to be of concern. Because we are now going into weekend suggest you call 111 (if you in UK) and discuss. I think you really need to be seen by a doctor, maybe need to go to A&E. Might need stronger antibiotics? Might even need IV antibiotics?? Don’t want to scare you and is probably nothing to worry about but DO feel better safe than sorry so please speak to medics.
spoken to a dr from my gp and he said it’s fungus infected , I’m in severe pain but had gave me antibiotics but can’t get them till tomorrow . Can hardly walk . My toe is cold but surly fungus can’t be doing all this, it is swollen so I’m guessing ingrown nail?
As said earlier the best person to deal with this would be someone like a chiropodist or podiatrist. That is someone who specialises in feet. I am certainly not an expert on feet. Only thing I would say is in the picture your other toe nail to see from picture don’t look (in my uneducated eye) too healthy. If it is a fungus can it spread to their toes?
The other person who may be able to advise you is the chemist when you pick your antibiotics up…….
oh right are chiropodist cheap? Thank you for your help much appreciated
I have no idea what is available in your area. Suggest you Google or do something like Facebook for recommendations in your home area.
looks like a fungal nail infection to me, I had this and my nail came off in the end, but it it grow back.
If you are in the U.K. you should be able to see a chiropodist on the NHS.
gp said he can’t as it’s a private service
Everyone I know who has need a chiropodist has needed to go privately. I live in UK. I guess like many things is a bit of a post code lottery. My dad got ears syringed via NHS but most people have to go private. I think vast majority of people these days would need private chiropodist.
Your toe feeling so cold except for the worse off area would prompt me to at least check in with rheumatology & ask if this could have several combined causes including Raynaud’s segueing into ‘ischemia reperfusion injury’…if you go to A&E please do mention this too…my severe Raynaud’s ischemia reperfusion injury predisposes me to infections of all kinda, so am always watching out for fungal & bacterial infections
it is warm to touch today but past couple days it’s been abit cold . Bloody still in pain, from 8-10 I was in know pain at all but woke up through out the night in agony and still am now ,
interestingly like my right foot big toe…A few years ago I did have a rare type of big toe fracture & although healed, that continues to make the toe more vulnerable. I also have simultaneous Raynaud’s & Erythromelalgia & am on scleroderma protocol high dose long term daily sildenafil for the severe Raynaud’s ischemia reperfusion injury, so I too can have feet & toes on both feet that are simultaneously hot & cold.
For what it’s worth, seems to me the fact the toe remains so hot .& red despite treatment indicates you need to be URGENTLY seen by a specialist nhs podiatrist for urgent assessment, .& while you’re sending them an SOS, you could go to A&E because I feel this is a red flag manifestation. In my part of the U.K., we self refer to nhs podiatry online & can attach photos. It’s really good you’re taking good photos, I just suggest you also take at least 1 photo of both forefeet together showing all your toes
I've just been through infected ingrowing toenails saga on both big toes for last 3 months. I've had 4 courses of antibiotics and was referred by my GP to NHS podiatrist. I've had to soak my feet in salt water twice a day and just starting to heal.
I hope by sharing my experience, that it helps you get the right treatment. Good luck 👍
thank you for advising , it feels worse today . Feels like I’ve broke my toe it’s that bad , (obviously haven’t )
When I saw your picture, I thought it looked broken because of the swelling and bruising (I had something similar recently with a little toe, and they are more easily broken). Are you sure you haven't bashed it on something? At the same time, because you can't walk on it, I would advise you see a podiatrist. It looks as if you might lose that nail as it heals. You can't just put up with it - go to A & E - at least they might x-ray it and they might send you to Podiatry. If the antibiotics work, then fine. Good luck.
I do remember banging it but don’t think it was that toe , it’s the skin what’s more painful , when I put hot water on it it stings , just got some flucloxacillin from my chemist
think you need A & E, apart from the fungal infection on your nail. , have you considered it might be. “ Gout”. ? in the big toe. I had gout some years ago and have been taking Allopurinol to control high Uric acid ever since. It needs checking out. Good luck to,you.
I sent some photos to my gp and he said infection plus fungal , bloody killing me . Though gout would be hot to touch plus swollen .
well it does seem to me as if you need to be seen properly . I had gout in my knee many years ago and I’m now taking Allopurinol for life to keep the uric acids down. So do not rule anything out at this stage. I wish you well soon .
Has he given you antibiotics ?
Oh that looks nasty, how long you been on antibiotics, maybe you need something stronger or get down to A &E
