Wife's hip replacement

Wifey needs a new hip, something that at different ages, the recovery can be different, on other people.

She's having it done privately, and info so far suggests in and out-same day. Would this be right.

She will be sore after, so presume she'll be dosed up with painkillers. So, when does the pain ease, i suspect immediate as she appears to have no cartilage (cushion). It will still persist "at lower pain" further. Please can someone guide

To me the idea of hip replacement and out all on same day sounds scary! I do know that this is becoming more common place so I guess they are confident of a good result. I assume they will give prescription medications to take away….. I would also be checking re after care and what she may struggle to do initially. Eg stairs, if toilet or chair low could be difficult to get in and out of. I know moving as much as possible is required but will she have exercises to do? When resting should she sit on lie? I think you need to have answers prior to surgery especially when you are going private ie paying for it!

If she had a general anaesthetic, I'd be very surprised if she's out same day. I've had both done, and was only allowed home after I demonstrated I could manage stairs - I had an epidural each time but still could barely move the day of the op - but everyone is different, both times I nearly lost consciousness the first time I stood up. I was out on day 2 tho. As Bevvy said, there will be things she needs to do - should not sit with knees > 90 angle so toilet seat, chairs etc may need adapting. I was also advised to sleep on my back which I struggled with the first time, as I was unused to it, so she could practise doing that before she has the op. Atb to you both.

Please do not assume that she will be prescribed pain meds. Since 2016 the US (where I live) has gone crazy with not give patients anything for pain even after some serious surgeries. And I've recently heard that Canada is going that way too. I don't know how opiates are being prescribed in your country but I'd ask the surgeon before I consented to surgery.
