De quervains tenosynovitis surgery
Really sorry to hear about the loss of your mum in law , such a shock . I lost a best friend suddenly recently and understand the awful shock . Just to say I’ve lived with tenosynovitis in my two arms for many many years and I’ve learnt to live with it and know what I can and can’t do . I try to avoid operations if I can , but good luck to you if you do get an operation .
Hi rabbits65 thanks for the reply. Oh really you live with it ? I get numbness down my index and middle finger and dont have much grip at all. I've waited so long for this operation. It's going ahead on the 21st
Wish you good health with your surgery. Hope it improves. Living with pain is sometimes unbearable. I got a new hip and pain is gone now. I’m trying to avoid shoulder and back surgery now. Physical therapy and bike riding help me. Good luck. God bless.
Good luck with the operation . I am ok with my tenosynovitis if I’m very careful not to aggravate the tendons and just go steady. I am on the most pain with my feet and I have a lot of back issues too . I get immensely tired some days , walking my two poodles helps me to exercise the best I can xxx
Hi Betsy50. I am so sorry to hear about your mother in law. I have exactly the same condition as you and mine is very severe, I now have muscle wastage in my thumb and my thumb is getting quite floppy. I was never offered an operation, so I can't help you there. I was offered a Carpal Tunnel Syndrome operation which developed through having the condition in my thumb, it has now started in my hand. I don't know whether you also have that too.
I never knew about the operation, but I don't think I would have had it because I can't have the Carpal Tunnel operation due to having Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. The surgeon told me that if I had the operation it could make that condition worse which I don't want to chance it. I have had to change my job because I used to be a room attendant in a hotel, I can't do that any longer due to my hands so now I am a hotel supervisor so I don't do anything strenuous otherwise I couldn't do that job either. I haven't worked for over 2 years and I hate not working so I had an interview yesterday and got the job which I was very surprised at having been out of work for over 2 years. I hope your operation comes soon and take care of yourself. xx
Hi aw well done getting the job fabulous!!! I have crps too but I definitely need this operation my tendons trapped so you can imagine. Thanks for the good wishes take care x
Hi Betsy50. Thank you for your kind words. Just be very careful that you don't make your crps worse. I didn't know until my surgeon told me that the operation could make it worse. I wouldn't want you to be worse than you already are, if that is possible. I would just check with your surgeon and see what he says as well. My hand is so painful and weak that I can hardly use it, but too me it is not worth having the operation to make the crps worse and the surgeon told me it might not even work. I hope everything goes well for you. Let me know how you get on and keep in touch. xx
Hi imagine1 oh I will be asking him for sure thanks for that. I have recently had a scan on my hands and it showed osteoarthritis just all of a sudden one day my hands were so sore with pins n needles but its calmed down now dont know about you but my pain just moves around my body so they saying it fibromyalgia onto of everything else. Pain really sucks. Hope you are well today x
Hi Betsy50. I am so happy that you are asking your surgeon's opinion. When I started having problems with my thumb straight away I was told that it was arthritis until they did tests on it and it turned out to be De quervains tenosynovitis. It was definitely due to my job that caused it, I had no problems at all before then. I have always been a room attendant and when I cleaned a room it was timed 20 minutes per room which should take about 30 minutes but they never gave you the time to clean it properly and it was very rushed. I was constantly shaking duvets into the covers which were King Size beds after a time that is when my thumb and wrist/hand started playing up. It took me over 2 years to get a disability benefit because they said that it wasn't because of my job, I had to convince them and now they have took it off me and I have to go to a tribunal to convince them that the job I did hurt my hands. Obviously if someone is constantly doing a strenuous job it is going to affect someone's hands. I am very well thank you. You are so right Pain does suck. Take care.
