Chest/Rib cage pain

Hey,

Hoping someone can give some advice or at least put my mind at ease. I have been suffering with chest pains for months now, I have had several Dr appointments (all over the phone) and have been sent for chest X-rays and ECG which both came back normal. I am currently waiting for a blood test appointment which has been a 10 week wait.

The pains I have are not really in the same place and there isn’t really a pattern to when i get them anymore, it was mainly in the evening but now it can be all day everyday. The only way I can describe its is stinging in my chest mainly between my boobs but can be anywhere, above boobs, in boobs, at the side towards armpit, varies from the left to right side. I have noticed over the last two weeks I am now getting these pains in the same place where it is in my chest in my upper back.

The Dr has recommended me trying Gaviscon which has made no difference, which led me to convince myself I had cancer in my food pipe. It’s very frustrating I havnt been able to see a Dr in person as I actually havnt been able to show them where the pains are.

I want to make another Drs appointment but trying to hold out until I’ve been able to have my blood test. Hoping someone had some advice before I drive myself crazy!

I am a 33 year old female and had covid over Christmas encase that makes any difference to anyones advice.

Thank you for reading!

Hello, just come across your post. It does sound as though it's indigestion/acid reflux. I've been suffering to of late, which ended up with a visit to a&e on Sunday with a load of testing. All fine thankfully. I think for women hormones definitely play a part also.

I think it's also so easy to get worked up and anxious when it's pain in our chest! Which in turn can cause digestive issues.

I've just been prescribed laprazomol for my indigestion. Hoping it does the trick.

Try not to worry too much (easier said than done) and I'm sure you'll get to the bottom of what's causing the pain.

Take care 🙂

Thank you so much for the reply!

The amount of times I’ve nearly called an ambulance thinking I’m having a heart attack 🙈 I do sometimes think my constant worrying is making it worse!

I have my blood tests tomorrow so hopefully one step closer 🤞🏼

Hi

You could have costochondritis, does stretching help? I had sharp shooting pains in my chest, underarm, near my collar bone it moves around. I have been checked and everything and they couldn’t find a cause. If you check on YouTube for exercises for this condition could help? Let me know if it made a difference.

Thank you for your reply!

I’ve seen costochondritis come up on a few post so could deffo be an option! I have been on YouTube and found several videos with exercises so I will try them!

When they do tests and find nothing you feel like your being stupid don’t you! 🙈

Hi. I get this. I can’t wear a bra for very often if at all most days. I asked my Rheumy nurse about it last month on our f2f and she said nothing to do with RA but could be costochondritis. She said to use some Voltarol where I get the pain. I have Gastric reflux and have been on omeprazole for years for it. I personally don’t think it’s anything to do with that. I’ve noticed if I’m very tired it is worse. I don’t think my posture when sitting is good either which doesn’t help, which brings the tiredness in too as I sit a lot on a bad day. I don’t like Voltarol much as I get upset tum with it using too often so I use Active 5 hemp gel. It does take the pain away for a while.

Thank you for your reply!

I also have more pain when wearing a bra, I’ve just had a baby 8 weeks ago so I thought the boob pain from my bra was down to the pregnancy but it’s just got worse since he was born!

I’ve been to the shop today and got voltarol, guardium, more gaviscon and nurophen! I want to try everyones suggestions before bothering my Drs again🙈

Hi. No problem. If only 8 weeks since you have your baby what about talking to your health visitor (whatever they are called nowadays). Also a nurse at my doctors once told me if you have a problem you see a doctor, if it continues you see the doctor again and again and again, then they will act if you keep going back. Why is it so long for a blood test? X

As I’ve been discharged from midwife care they’ve said I have to now go through Drs, my midwife sent me to a&e several times throughout my pregnancy for the pains and they just looked at me like “what are you even doing here” 🙈 and she arranged my ECG as every Drs appointment they just kept saying it doesn't sound sinister and to basically crack on. But now it’s getting worse i am going to push for a face to face appointment. The blood test was the first appointment available, they said it wasn’t an emergency I just have to wait until the next available appointment which was 10 weeks 🙈

Aw that’s dreadful having to wait that long! I guess I’m lucky as there are numerous places I can book a blood test around here and get them within a week or 2. Did you book on swiftqueue? Yes get a face 2 face i think too. Good luck! Let us know how you get on. Xx

Hi Aimes213. I have had reflux for years and was prescribed Omeprazole which is, I understand, also available over the counter (in the UK).

I recently managed to gain another condition and have been switched to Lansoprazole but I guess they are very similar (a PPI).

I recently began drinking just a little (50mls or so) or Keffir every day and have found that my reflux has been better. I can't diagnose your problem but if it should be relux it may be worth a cheap fix of trying Keffir for a week and finding if it is of any help to you.

I was diagnosed with Pleurisy a year or so ago and that gave a very(!) sharp pain on each intake of breath - around my rib cage. I was sent by my GP \(after a telephone consultation) to A and E where I was treated, monitored for several hours, X-rayed then sent home with some strong antibiotics. The pleurisy pain I had was extremely sharp and it was obvious there was a problem. I pity you if you have this!

I hope that a little of the above may be beneficial and wish you better soon. Regards.
