Have you suffered from chronic pain and have been prescribed long-term opioid medication as a result of this?

I’m conducting a research project at the University of Derby, which is exploring the experiences of individuals who have been on opioid medication for at least six months or longer due to chronic pain. Opioids are often used as medicines because they contain chemicals that relax the body and can relieve pain. Many people get prescribed opioid medication for chronic pain as the main treatment pathway for living with the pain. Some examples of opioid medication are codeine, tramadol, fentanyl, oxycodone, buprenorphine etc. The study will involve an interview being conducted remotely via Microsoft Teams/ Skype and a series of questions being asked by the researcher regarding your experiences with the opioid medication. The interview will take approximately 1 hour to complete. The interviews will be audio recorded for research purposes, and all identifiable information will be removed from the study.

Don't hesitate to get in touch with me for further information.

Hi Katherine I have been prescribed both tramadol ans dihydrocodeine (not together obviously) for the last 10 years plus due to chronic pain due to trauma in my left leg - which resulted in several operations which led to ankle fusion - I also have Qutenza patches to help control pain (to aviod taking so much opiod medications - which essentially make me unable to function properly)

Hi, so it’s for my final year project at university, I’am conducting this study to basically get people’s experiences on painkiller medication when being diagnosed with chronic pain, the research will only be shared with me and my supervisor who is supervising my project, if you like I could email you all the information and you can decide if you’d like to take part

Katherine,

Hello Katherine, I'd like to know more about your study and research. I will be glad to know what you find. I have been in severe chronic pain since 1984 and without hydrocodone and the other combination of medications, I would not be a functional person. Because of my pain meds I am able to live a normal life, am now retired but still work writing and doing zoom classes. I am in US and there is constant threat of having meds taken away. I know what works, am an elder, and it has worked for years, no side effects, no drowsiness even in the beginning. Obviously, it is what my body needs and the thread of having no meds completely frightens me. It is the difference between having a quality life and being bound to bed, screaming when trying to move. Because the meds make me look good and usually pain-free, Docs think I am fine. But rarely see me during the hours when I am medication free.

Hi Katherine1801, I have had cervical spinal injuries for 17 years, now progressed to lumbar, I’ve had several surgeries for both and have been using Fentanyl patches & Oramorph for 11 years. I’ve had 9 previous knee surgeries with several procedures in each, most recently (3 weeks ago), a total knee replacement and patella. I’m 51 years old. Can I help?
