Recurring headaches

Hi, I have been suffering with headaches for about 6 months now. I managed to get rid of them about 1 month ago but they came back again shortly after. I am seeing a physio, get a deep tissue massage and have seen an osteopath but they are still present. I’m at my wits end as they won’t seem to go away. Any ideas as to what I can do? I’ve seen my doctor throughout this whole time but they don’t seem to be able to suggest what is wrong. They haven’t referred me for any scans or anything.

I’m sorry that must be awfully worrying for you too which won’t help the headaches. Just a thought have you cast your mind back to before that 6 months, has anything changed in your life, moving, job, family matters, etc . I think the time has come whereby you must go and get a scan of some sort. I wish you well ,

Hi, I suspect that I suffered a burnout at work which probably caused the headaches? I have put measures in place so that I can exist at work and I am actually quite enjoying it… apart from the constant headaches

Very good that you enjoy your work . Maybe though you need a holiday. 😊

A headache workup can be quite extensive but necessary to find the best treatment. It may have a muscular skeletal cause in which case the treatment you are getting would be on point. CT of the brain would help to rule out more serious causes. Labs such as a sedimentation rate would help to rule out temperol arteritis, which if untreated could have serious consequences. CT /MRI of the cervical spine would define possible nerve compression problems. Other diagnoses would include migraines, cluster headaches, etc. Hopefully further studies will help find the cause and best treatment for your headache...etheral

I would start making a chart for your GP. When the headaches happen =- how long they last - what you did about it -eg: any medication, and anything you had to miss as a result of the headache. Then you can show your GP what an impact it is happening on your life.

Are you taking paracetamol for the headaches? Repeated doses of paracetamol can cause persistent headache.

Hi maybe like Stones suggested. I took repeated doses of painkillers for headaches that just did not seem to go away about 20 years ago. It lasted for some 18 months. In the end I recognised it could be the constant painkillers that might do it. I stopped taking them and it was kind of hard but the headaches got less and disappeared in the end. Nowadays I will take the odd painkiller for a headache but am very wary to take more than 2 doses in a row. Of course it’s just a possibility but easy to check out.

I agree with you I think painkillers need to be taken with great care or else they seem to have an adverse affect.

Is TMJ ruled out? If not, it can help to go to a Feldenkrais practitioner. It was the only thing that helped me with my headaches.
