I get random stabbing pain in my head/brain at random times, it doesn't seem to be triggered by anything specific. I also get a kind of pressure feeling like something pushing against my skull from the inside and I'm very confused as to why. I also get frequent migraines throughout the week. Any suggestions will be very helpful

Sharp stabbing headaches

There can be many causes for the problem. Some of these causes can only be diagnosed by a Gp or appropriate medical consultant.
One cause that is often missed and ignored by the medical profession is posture.
The head is heavy. The head neck relationship is designed to balance on the top of the spine. This way virtually no muscle effort is needed to hold the head there. However what can happen is that the head is no longer balanced at the top of the spine. When this happens muscular effort is required to hold the head up.
The muscular effort to hold the head can vary considerably depending on how much the head is out of balance. This muscular effort can lead to painful migraines, headaches and other painful conditions too many to mention.
It may be worth seeing both a McTimony chiropractor and Alexander teacher to determine if you have posture problem and for remedial action regarding a possible posture problem.
This is an area that is outside the training of the medical profession who study what drugs to prescribe, but know very little on how bad muscular usage leads to long standing health health disabilities.
Hope this helps
I too suffer from these. I have a Neurologist, brought about another illness I have, says these are tension headaches. I used to get them a lot when I worked but still suffer today, only not as bad or as frequent. I didn't think I was in a high tension job either, but that's what he said they are. Hope this helps.
Hi bubblepop, I too have random stabbing pains in my head. Also suffer migraines but not as frequently as I used to. When I told my rheumatologist he was quite vague but seemed to suggest the stabbing pains are to be expected as the connective tissue is under attack. I did have a brain scan when I was having very frequent headaches and migraines but all was normal. Due to the normal results of scan and unconcerned reaction of rheumatologist I have been accepting it as just part of the disease. I hope you get some answers and I would be Intrested to hear if you come across any other opinions.
regards, mellie
Hi,do the stabbing pains seem to be in the surface/skin area or just below the skin? It sounds like nerve pain/neuralgia. Keep the area warm, apply a warm pad and keep out of any cold winds.
I'm not sure what the pressure is!
Perhaps you could get a referral to a headache specialist, they are usually part of neurology.
If your GP can't help have a look for a local headache/migraine clinic

It is possible to have multiple types of headache all at the same time.
