Cold sore

I had a sore bump yesterday on my lip and my lips just looked dry. I thought nothing of it. This morning my lips are really sore because it’s turned out to be a cold sore 😫😫😫😫. It’s a throbbing pain. The top layer has peeled off. Anyone know what best cream/treatment?

Also I’ve started to get a really sharp throbbing shooting pain in my ear going down into the side of my throat. Could it all b related?

Cold sores often develop when a person is unwell. So yes could be connected. Suggest you take Covid test and if clear see gp. Only suggesting Covid test because likely that is what gp will initially say……

Thanks for your reply Bevvy. I am really paranoid about Covid so yes i will take a test. But the doctor no doubt will think not much of it. But me having diabetes might make him do so.

Don’t see why diabetes would make any difference. And yes I am also diabetic. I think it sounds like you have either an ear infection or throat infection. Possibly need antibiotics although these days GPs try to avoid them.

Hope you feeling much better soon.

I get recurrent cold sores and almost always they are associated with neuralgia-type pain which is what your pain sounds like. It tends to go away after a few days.

If it's your first outbreak then you are more likely to a little unwell as your immune system may be a bit run down. Suggest you read up on it as they are contagious. nhs.uk/conditions/cold-sores/ or hva.org.ukIn between time go to your pharmacy and they will have something to help ease the soreness. You could try zovirax although I usually use a lidocaine ointment or emla, or there's lomaherpan which is made from lemon balm. If it becomes a regular problem some gp's will prescribe aciclovir.

Would also recommend you make a note in your diary to see whether it becomes a regular thing. Hope that helps.

Thanks for reply, yes it’s the Zovirax I’ve started to try. And yes actually I will make a note in my diary to see if it happens again and when. I hope it doesn’t 🙈

Hi. Hate to tell you but you are very likely to have more outbreaks, although for some people it's occasionally and for others it becomes a nuisance. Hope for you it will be the former.

Sounds like a bacterial infection which may need antibiotics.Dont bother with the GP , pay a visit to local Hospital walk in centre.

They will sort you out.
