Hi, I have been suffering chronic sciatica pain down my left side of months and it's been driving me crazy tbh. Does anyone have any suggestions please?.
Ongoing Sciatica pain.: Hi, I have been... - Pain Concern
Ongoing Sciatica pain.
Look on YouTube for stretching exercises.Take ibobrufen for a few days - if your stomach allows. Drink plenty of water.
Go for a walk doing the long stretch silly walk as per John Cleese in ministry of silly walks. ( Seriously) you need to feel the hip and back muscles stretching.
Be very gentle going down steps or stairs.
And NO pulling or lifting.
Happy Christmas.
Don't overstretch!!! Keep walking. Sleep on side with a pillow between your knees bent legs. Try to avoid sitting I car and take breaks in long journeys. Listen to your body dont ignore it, if the pain continues get medical advice. Just keep moving so pain management is key.
I think I may have sciatica but I’m not sure as I’m going to different departments with the NHS. But are you able to sit down because sometimes I can’t sit down because my left bum cheek hurts and the pain goes down my thigh to my knee. I used to take gabapentin but it did nothing for me. So I use a tens machine when the pain is bad and take co codamol
I also have to sit on hot water bottle to do work
G'day, sorry I haven't replied until now. I would suggest that u are experiencing similar symptoms to me Yas45. I also have a Congenital defect to my coccyx & M.E which is a different story.
Do u find the tens machine helps?. Please be aware that co codamol can make you constipated.
I have been prescribed Opiate patches over the last few weeks and the pain is hardly there now. It does concern me though how long I might need them for which I will discuss with my doctor
Kind regards

Hi - if this has been ongoing for more than 6 weeks I suggest you seek medical advice from your doctors. Sciatica is fickle which can be caused by several issues the main one being your lower back - lumbar area of the spine where a herniated disc may be pressing on the sciatic nerve. Take care
Hi JoJoJersey Girl
I have suffered bilateral sciatica for the past 16 yrs. Countless MRIs show no explanation of the reason why? I take a cocktail of drugs which includes opioids. I have had every treatment imaginable but it is of little help. I am very interested to know the name of the medical device you said helped you? I am always searching the internet of anything that could help. Thank you, stay safe. 😀
G'day JoAnn, sorry for the delay in answering. Yes I would like to find out more about the device FDA Class 2 please if possible.
Kind regards

Hi , I have Sciatica on left side of my leg I take medication pregabilin which eases it but another thing I do which people can laugh at is massage my buttock or stroke round that area just to ease the nerve pain. Good luck😁
I have sciatica in my left side. Starts every end of lower back or around where love handles are it goes into my left buttock then twists around going into the bone of my coccyx, darts sideways into my hip muscle and bone then spirals around my upper thigh before shooting outwards down the side of my upper outside thigh and behind upper left buttock into back of thigh, then spiralling as mentioned above, before it spirals around upper thigh shooting outward to outside of thigh then down to knee spiralling above and below knee cap and in turn whilst it's simultaneously running down lower front and lower back of leg before wrapping tight around and inside my lower ankle before the two side ankle bones that jut out, it bypasses those, but spreads out across and into top of foot and into all my left toes and under my foot into both sides of foot its outer side in the bone and inner underside of foot arch and then into my achilles tendon not heel, and back up the back of my left leg back up to coccyx. If l massage buttock, as in deep kneeding with bent thumb its knucle or handle of wooded spoon it can help along with squeezing outside of foot or getting strong man "that l used to have around" to basically squeeze and crush my foot and bending toes backwards at the same time. Lots of deep kneeding of whole left side below waist right down to toes required. I have no strong hrnded man now so have to do all l mentioned myself and when pain eventually becomes unbearable l take Zapain tablets which just knock me out.
Hi I have had sciatica for 20 years right side but in the last year it has been bilateral I take amitryptoleine 50mg methacarbanol for back spasms and dihyracodeine (and this last week slow release tramadol)and I am lucky enough to get morphine (oral morphine) which is a only if I need to go to hospital pain threshold! Weather can affect Pilates is a great form of exercise .. good luck a good gp and consultant is a bonus !! MRI scans will give them an in-depth look as I have DDD too which will get worse ..
