Has anyone ever taken Amitripyline for spasms in the esophagus? I am new—-this is my first post. I have been having severe pain in between my breast that radiates
through my back —last about five to ten minutes then totally no pain at all.
It happens a lot after rushing and being stresses and after eating. I am taking 40 mg of Pepcid 2x. Just had an EGD With biopsy’s taken— came back as just irritation.

Amitriptyline is a night time nerve pain medication. So if it wakes you up at night I can see it being given to you to help you try to sleep through the night. But other than that I'm not sure how it could help with spasms or your type of pain. ...Hope they get to the bottom of the pain. .. I get a lot of acid type pain it's an awful pain.
I have had and still do from time to time have pain in the same location between breast and goes through to my back. I have a hiatal hernia. This is where the upper part of your stomach pushes through the diaphragm. I took Amitripyline but not for the hernia. I took for fibromyalgia and other body pain. It was to my relieve pain during my sleeping hours. I would have stayed on it but in 2008 I reached the magic hour of turning 65. Now medicare decides which drugs are safe for me to take. The medications Medicare allows seniors to take gets really short. It seems possible that it helps with spasms at night as I have spasms all day long and especially at night from things other that Fibromyalgia.
I have had a hiatal hernia for years. I am 71 and try to eat smaller meals and avoid spicy foods. I have been tracking these attacks and most come after having stress. I come from a large family and relationships are hard. Many of my sisters are older and not being rightly cared for by their kids. Hard to be still. I already take a lot of meds so really do not want to take this one, but I know my Doc will classify me as a non compliant patient. Have to set on this till I have a stress test after Thanksgiving. Thanks for your imput.
