When I was diagnosed with osteoporosis years ago the Dr told me that one day in the future (which is now) and when my pain gets really bad, that I’ll be given the right type of painkillers .

My pain is so bad & I have good days and f**king awful days where I cry in pain, 😢 I should be on oral morphine , when I’ve been in hospital I’ve been given that & I was in No pain it was lovely to not be hurting in my bones.

But my GP refused to give me it & has left me in pain 😢😢 I dunno what to do??

I can’t live in this much pain 💔

GPs hands are tied when it comes to opioids because they should only be given to end of life patients or for breakthrough and post surgical pain.

I think the next step for you should be a referral to a pain clinic. They are the ones that are the experts at this, and will be able to help you with the right drugs at the right time.

I know what you’re saying about GPs hands tied but the consultant Dr at hospital wrote my GP a letter to give me oral morph & still she won’t !!! 😱

GPs can only prescribe up their clinical competence. So they don't have to prescribe what a hospital consultant prescribes. But there should be a dialogue between the GP and consultant about this. There is guidance that was written to stop patients being caught in the middle of this sort of thing. There could be an arrangement of shared care, but it has to be agreed by the GP

Additionally there will be local rules from the CCGs about who can prescribe strong opioids.

I am sorry to hear that you are still not getting the pain relief you need. Have you managed to get a referral to the pain clinic?

My GP said he’d refer me that was 6 months ago

Do you have access to your medical records? You should be able to see if they have actually referred you. You could also ring your local PALS to ask them how to find out how long the waiting list is. You can find them here:

Bless you 😭 That's awful. No one should have to put up with so much pain. My eldest daughter has chronic back problems and Fybromyalgia. She has infusions of lidocaine. Like injections for arthritis but it's intravenous. It makes her worse at first but then helps for a while. It should be done every 3 months but it never is. She has been offered an epidural but her initial back problems started when she had an epidural whilst in labour with my granddaughter who is now 19. She is on a cocktail of painkillers. She also takes Oramorph - liquid morphine -prescribed by her GP when the pain becomes unbearable. I would contact your GP again. Praying 🙏 that you can get some help asap. ❤ x

Doctors do give morphine for chronic back pain. I’m on it. Been on it for a good few years too my life too without it is terrible and not worth living. See my posts on my experience.

It may help

I agree with Cyber. Doctors are under intense scrutiny in regards to prescribing opiodes. Most Doctors are referring out to pain clinics. Just go to a pain clinic. They will help you get the pain attended to one way or the other. As that is there specialty.
