About 5 years ago I had an accident which resulted in me fracturing my lower spine. As a knock on effect, I now suffer with back ache and severe hip pain, the hip pain been the most prominent. I have seen a doctor and they have recommended physiotherapy. I have done this twice, been discharged and continue with the exercises provided to me. However the pain does not go away and is now starting to keep me awake most of the night.
Due to the current Covid-19 situation, I am unable to get an appointment for a doctor to assess me, so I wondered if anyone has any advice on managing the pain at home. So far I am getting by with pain killers and a hot water bottle. This stops the pain for about an hour.

Thank you for your post, and I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this pain. It is good that you are keeping up with the exercises provided by your doctor, there are some other techniques that you can use alongside this to help in the meantime until you can meet with your GP again for assessment.
Mindfulness is a helpful technique for taking your mind off the pain to focus on other things. I have linked our website resources on mindfulness which may be helpful to you. painconcern.org.uk/resource...
Further to this, there are changes that can be made in your daily life to help try and combat pain. Different types of pain can be aggravated and made worse by lack of sleep, worry and lack of movement. It may be useful to focus on breathing to try and relax and refocus your mind away from the pain you are experiencing. Breathing techniques can help with this, sit or lie somewhere comfortable and place your hands on your tummy. Close your eyes and start to take a deep inwards breath, slowly. Hold that breath for 5 seconds and then exhale. Do this a few times and hopefully you will start to feel a lightness start to come over you.
I'm so sorry to read about your pain. Have you ever tried a tens machine? My mother has had 2 spinal fusions and found this to help a bit. But she now has a neuro modulator, when you can get to your Dr it may be worth asking about that.
