Since about January 2018 I have had back pain only when I go to bed. Nothing during the day at all. I even run 3/4 times per week and started this with c25k. I have tried lots of different pain relief , over the counter then from the doctor, nothing helps. The bed I had was only 4 years old and I have not slept properly for nearly 2 years. So I got another new bed which cost over £500 thinking this would help but it hasn't. I asked for a c/t scan but I was told by the doctor that it has to be a consultant that refers me for this . The waiting list for orthopaedic is very long so will just have to wait.
The pain I have is in the lower back and ribcage at the back also.
Just posting to see if anyone else on here has had nocturnal back pain.

Hi ,I do suffer from lower back pain and it dose flare up to the stage I can hardly walk, naproxen 500 always seems to do the trick, sounds as tho you need your doctors to refer you to see a consultant and get a scan.
I think I do need a scan to see exactly what's going on . Even my own doctor thought it was strange I get no back pain during the day but the minute I want to sleep it starts
So sorry to here this. Chronic pain is so wearing. I hope you get it sorted ASAP.
Hi
I'm so sorry to hear this. Please try and get your Dr to refer you so that you can get a scan. Where do you live? I'm in pain 24/7 cos of many conditions. I have lower back pain all across my lower back and hips. Anyway my referral came quite quickly,I had an MRI and was diagnosed with degeneration of the facet joint. My right side was crumbling and left side was moderate. I'm now waiting for pain killing steroid injections. Hope you see some improvement soon. Best wishes t
I have to wait to see a consultant in orthopaedic . The waiting list is very long. Can't be anything really bad as I can run 3/4 times a week and only starts when I go to bed
I already do a lot of stretches because I run and yes I am waiting on an appointment but as of today just got in from a run and I have an appointment for the 26th November so that's good
I was quite surprised I got my appointment as the waiting list was supposed to be 40-50 weeks. I will put it to then to give me a scan and if everything is ok that's fine . I will just need to cope with it . Just wish I could sleep better
Waiting lists are not that long in my experience. I usually get a letter saying that an appointment will be made within 8 weeks and if I have not heard anything to contact them. But you got it quick. I can’t sleep much but it’s due to horrible nerve pain down my leg which does of course originate in the back. Hopefully you will get an MRI. Let us know how you got on 🤞🏻
Hi, I would recommend paying privately for a good physiotherapist who can refer you, and pay private for a scan, should be able to get it in a few days
Do you sleep on your back? If I sleep on my back, I always wake up with a back ache. However, if I sleep on my side with a pillow between my knees, I do much better. I have had a bulging disc in the past. The pillow keeps the spine aligned. Doesn’t cost anything to try it while you are waiting for your scan. Good luck!
I have been doing a great deal of research using magnets over the past 10 years and it helps with back pain. One client had spinal stenosis and couldn't walk without a cane. After lying on a 4"x6"x1/2" ceramic block magnet for a week, the pain was gone and he could walk without the cane. Many of my other clients have had the same pain relief. I do specific lower back and upper back daily exercises and rarely have lower back or hip pain, but when I do 30 minutes with the magnet removes the pain. You can get the magnets at:
When you go to sleep, place the magnet under the part of your back that is giving you pain (typically middle lower back) and go to sleep. When it becomes uncomfortable during the night, just throw it on the floor.
I've got exactly the same problem. I use a trans machine when I wake up which helps. I hate to lie down. I have used clonazepam to help me sleep occasionally and co codomol. I have three herniated disks. Surgery is an option, but I'm scared.
