Root Canal Treatment

I had a toothache at the end of April so went to my NHS dentist who gave me antibiotics and a follow up appointment for the 1st stage of root canal which he was able to do. I have been 3 times now for the final stage to begin but even after they've numbed the area I can still feel pain in my tooth. The dentist has no idea why. I did have a discectomy about 4 years ago which solved the problem of the disc pressing on my sciatic nerve but the nerve has never healed and I still suffer pain (more pain, in fact). Could it be that signals to my brain where pain is concerned have gone haywire? She has now suggested I am sedated to have the treatment done and a crown put in place but this has to be done privately which will cost in the region of £650. I have already paid nearly £70 to the NHS. Any ideas where I can go from here? Has anyone else had the same thing happen to them?

Thanks in advance

Ask your dentist to refer you to your nearest dental hospital or into the community dental service. They are experts in more complex dentistry issues.

Thank you for your suggestion but apparently they don't refer to dental hospital or community dental service. The last one is for prisoners etc in my area. I don'twant to commit a crime to use their service 😂. Although it's a crime to be charged so much.

Thank you for your time in replying.

I think you will find that the the CDS treat more than just prisoners. My partner is a recently retired Clinical Manager of a CDS. Generally they provide:

Referrals for patients with additional needs, plus size patients, anxious patients requiring care under sedation or General Anaesthesia, Periodontic, Endodontic and Restorative services.

The other route is a referral to a dental hospital such as the Eastman in London and many others throughout the country.

If you want to disclose the general area in which you live, perhaps by PM, I can advise further.

Do not know if this will help. If you can afford some allicin liquid and rinse + swallow a mouthful twice a day, there might be an improvement - fingers crossed.

Thank you for your reply. I'm booked in soon for treatment which fortunately for me is being paid for by my parents. I've had to pay an additional assessment appointment charge of £70 for about 7 mins! I'm hoping this will work as they specialise in root canal treatment and I won't need to be sedated. It's so annoying it only hurts once they've numbed the area and put the pin in. Fingers crossed 😀
