Broken ankle - burning sensation

Hi all just looking for some advice. I broke my ankle just over a week ago and today I was fitted with a boot. I’m currently laid in bed in agony with an awful burning sensation in my toes. Has anyone else ever experienced this? I didn’t have this with the half cast only tonight with the boot. I’m not supposed to remove it at all for the next 5 weeks but I’ve tried to slacken the straps a little around my foot thinking it may be too tight but that’s no help either. Should I go to my doctors?

Simple answer is yes...see your GP.

Could be many reasons for the pain

Out of interest why was the cast taken off and boot put on?

It was only a half cast/backslab and was put on in A&E to give the fracture support until I had my appointment in the fracture clinic, which was yesterday. After an X-ray yesterday the doctor said it was a sturdy fracture and to start putting weight on it, so a boot has been put on.

Hi

Yes, definitely go back to your GP, you need some answers as to why you are feeling like this. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

Thanks, I’ll give them a ring today, I honestly can’t cope with another night like that. I’m awake now and it’s still the same sensation

Hi. I'm an orthopedic nurse. You need to call fracture clinic and get seen again. Although you need to keep it elevated try and put it down to help blood circulation every now and again. Gently wiggling your toes may also help. But definitely get seen where you initially got given the boot.

Ok thankyou, I have an appointment with my GP tomorrow so I will see what they say and then give the fracture clinic a call. I have been keeping it elevated at times but also moving around a lot more as the doctor said I have to weight bare as much as possible now. It’s strange it happened at night as it was fine when it was first put on. Thankyou for your help
