I have had these shots. The doctor has to make the injection in the correct spot. So communicating exactly where the pain is is important. When you have pain throughout the area it’s difficult. But they do help. Good luck

I have same problem. I had a spinal injection in January before I came out of hospital. It had to be done in operating theatre under X-ray so consultant could ensure it went it right place. It worked for a few weeks but told outcome very variable.

I am on waiting list for another but have to pay some of cost as NHS won’t cover cost, just got first free as inpatient. I’m in Yorkshire don’t know position in other places.

Had quite a few different ones. Outcome is variable. Last one helped for quite a while. It’s worth a go I’d say, just be sure you get an experienced person doing them.

You are right, there are specialists especially in sports medicine who do these epidural on a daily basis. Your orthopedist will recommend a good one im sure.

Hello had my first series of three epidural steroid injections bc my sciatic nerve was so inflamed that i was in constant pain. The injections (i live in Usa State ny) were done by a sports/pain doctor who my Orthopedist recommendet. Dont need sedation its really not painful when u relax. Its done with fluoroscope guidance. After the third injection i felt a lot better altho the pressure on the nerve from spondylosis still hurts occasionally especially standing and walking. Those shots caN be given only once

A year. Good luck!

Hope you did not have them

They can cause Arachnoiditis

If your sciatic nerve is seriously inflamed and does not heal you may wind up with permanent nerv e damage. Those epidurals are done by the thousands, by specialists, under x ray guidance. To the nerve root ....

You can take oral steroids but why treat your whole body when a targeted dose helps? Everything you do is risky. But if you read up on this procedure on various websites you will relax. Those epidural injections have been given for over 20 years. And, how about when u have a baby? They give epidurals so you dont feel pain from the waist down.
