I was wondering if anyone else suffered from migraines that are worse with the hot weather. The medication I was given, Sumatriptan 50mg, cannot be taken on a regular basis, due to the type of drug it is. My GP does not seem interested in taking the matter further and offering any other help. These migraines can leave me in a state for the whole of the day, sometimes continues through the night, on and off with the pain. Any help would be appreciated.
Migraines: I was wondering if anyone else... - Pain Concern
Migraines
Hi
I'm sorry you are suffering so much. Could you see a different gp or change surgery?. Thinking if you. Take care Lynne
Thank you for your reply. I think I should try a different GP.
Hi woodcabbage, I too suffer in the hot weather. However my GP said to take them if necessary and to make a sensible judgement call. I generally know it's defo a migraine coming when I start to feel terribly sick so I take one then. Prior to that I will take paracetomal or ibuprofen in the hope it's not going to be one! I believe in a little caffeine too so take a coffee and a hot water bottle too (even in this heat!) because quite frankly a cold compress is my worst enemy when I am in pain. Hope this helps. I do feel your pain
Thank you for your reply. I cannot touch caffeine it makes my migraines worse, but the hot water bottle sounds like a brilliant idea. If your GP has advised you to take when necessary either I definitely need a different GP or he was over cautious.
It is so nice to know I am not alone with this horrible condition.
Hi woodcabbage, great name title BTW, I'm in a similar situation myself, I was getting the mother of all migraines but mine were always while I was asleep, I was prescribed rizatiptin, but you could only take 2 tablets in a 24 hour period, and I don't know why my doctor stopped them, (cost maybe) however I was then told that they wanted to try a prementative treatment propananol, this initially stopped the headaches, however they came back, so I'm now on the maximum dose of them, and still getting those migraines, I was prescribed another tablet naratiptan, which again is only 2 tablets maximum in 24 hours, right, here's where I think my problems lye, I'm a male mid 50s and I have vitamin b12 deficiencies, I honestly believe that this is what is causing these problems, and the symptoms and health problems that it causes is colossal, its all well and good my doctor giving me these propananol, but trying to convince them it's something else is nigh on impossible, males of a certain age fall into the headache bracket, so trying to solve your migraines could mean that you need to look at other symptoms, good luck and sorry about the long post.
Hello.
No need to apologise for the long post, sometimes you have a lot to say. We at times need to get things off our chest. There is the problem of a GP not listening to us regarding other issues that we, knowing our own body, believe contributes to migraines. Unfortunately, some GP's lack the traditional bedside manner, tend to rush us out the door with a prescription for pain relief and if we dare say we know there is more going on, they look at us to say, they are the professional one and we have no idea how our body works. Sometimes you just know. Ageing is a part of us all and yes we do have things that exasperate other problems, I agree there could be some underlying issue I have not yet considered.
Thank you for your reply and be well.
Thank you for the suggestion. I shall have a look on the websites.
Botox for migraines was an awesome thing for me.
Botox? That is something I have never heard of. How does that work?
