Constant pain in foot, please help

Hello,

So, for the past month weeks I've had a constant ache in my right foot, sometimes in my left. It's kind of like a heavy feeling, sometimes I get pins and needles, sometimes there's a stabbing feeling but there's no pain. I went to the out of hours doctor and she did my blood pressure and said nothing about it and checked the pulse in my right foot and said that it was good. She said that it was nerve entrapment but that didn't make sense to me as the pain was in both feet, but I am not a doctor so I don't know if it's possible to get nerve entrapment in both feet. The pain went away for a week so I cancelled my doctors appointment (now regretting this massively) and went on with my life, only for it to reappear a few days ago.

I've down the awful thing of googling it and peripheral neuropathy is coming up and the word diabetes is mentioned a lot of the time. I'm only 18, and only my grandfather has diabetes and even then, he's step so it's not blood. I'm not the skinniest but I am in the process of loosing weight - I am around 12 stone the last time I checked.

Is there a chance it could be diabetes or peripheral neuropathy?

Symptoms include; aching, heavy feeling, sometimes a burning pain but not often, stabbing pain but with no feeling - almost like a pulse if that makes any sense.

It should also be noted that both my mum and sister suffer from restless leg syndrome so I thought it could be that but RLS only occurs at night - at least that's what I think.

Any information or advice would be appreciated. I'm going to ring the doctors on Monday morning and they will probably hate me but I can't keep panicking like this.

Thank you in advance.

try not to worry as often many symtoms fit lots of different illness;s that why its not good to rely on google if you dont know whats wrong with you. there are many other symptoms to diabetes like being over thirsty and passing water to much and many other symptoms. iv had all those symptoms you describe and im not diabetic I think you should make an appointment with your doctor and tell her how worried you are and now is the time to make changes to your diet and exercise as just because diabeties is in the family does not mean you will get it. A lot of whether you do get it is in your own hands.

If the pain is mainly in your feet you could see if you can self refer to a podiatrist. In some areas you can, but in others a GP has to refer you. Podiatrists are the experts in feet and they will be able to figure out what is going on, sometimes better than a GP can. And I agree with Grace, those symptoms could be anything from a simple structure problem that just needs a more supportive shoe, to the movement in your feet that is aggravating a nerve, so try not to worry.

You say: "sometimes I get pins and needles".

You say: "Symptoms include; aching, heavy feeling, sometimes a burning pain but not often, stabbing pain but with no feeling - almost like a pulse if that makes any sense."

This requires a visit to a GP and a visit to a chiropractor. The chiropractor can give a useful second opinion. The causes for your problem can be many and without a careful physical examination it is not possible to determine a cause.

The nerve entrapment issue is chiropractor territory. You also need to take up some exercise to get muscles moving. I suspect you may be having a too sedimentary lifestyle and as a result not using the muscles as much as you should. There are various local groups who engage in various fun physical activities some of which you may find congenial to you.

Dear Dkim,

First of all, and Most importantly, Slow Down Cowboy (or girl). Do get another Doctors Appointment, maybe explain why you cancelled the last one.

Secondly, please, Please, PLEASE Stop, looking 'things up' on the Internet! You can 'Give' yourself anything- from Amnesia, through Gall Stones and Cuirasses to Bubonic Plaque! Your actual symptoms were 'Tiredness', 'Bloating and Constipation' and a 'Sore Foot'.....! It is true, that a Family History, of a particular Condition might- and I mean MIGHT- make you a little more Prone, to developing it. Please don't think, that I'm, 'Having a Go' at you Dkim, we have all Looked Up 'Things'- yes guilty as charged. However, there is a Difference.....We are asking about, the symptoms, of a Condition- you are 'Blindly' putting in Symptoms and asking for the Condition. Do you see what I'm saying here?

As I said, please DO, contact your Doctor/ Consultant again- eat Humble Pie, if you have to- and get yourself another appointment. Sorry to be a bit (BIT?) dictatorial Dkim, I'm just concerned that you DO get a Doctor's opinion.

Please let us know, how you Get On, will you.
