I have strained my back in April by going to a Cyropracter. Then i proceeded to strain it worse and worse. The last overexertiin has send me into servere muscle spasms. I can not walk. And what I mean is weak in legs and if I go to far then my back and pelvis spasms. I started P.T. but have had little to no results. Anyone out there go through a strained back such as I? Any info, comments would help. Thank You. I had 2 mri done. They were clean. It's muscular and torn ligiments.

Okay here's a trick to get seen sooner than year waiting list my doctor suffered back issues so I was lucky to get her that day she referred me to an orthopedics doctor it first appointment he checks me over sends me home to wait for MRI appointment then back to him it was all done pretty fast, also once your Dr sends referral to hospital you could phone their department and ask them to put you on list for last minute cancelled appointments which will speed it up to.hope this has helped.what kind of pyhsio or doc did u see?.also,is it like spasms as in tightness then releasing?

i went through this and luckily like curlybacks suggests I asked if I could go on a cancellation list and got seen by the physio department at the hospital within weeks.

It took 9 months of physio in the end. It started with hydrotherapy which was amazing, just to get some movement back into my spine without spasm. I think I had a few months of hydrotherapy. I also was prescribed diazepam. I know sometimes you can choose which hospital you prefer and I would recommend the one that has a hydrotherapy pool. After hydrotherapy it was several more months of rehabilitation physio and building up muscle strength, was more surrounding muscles that had wasted. Anyway after 9 months I was discharged.

I have to say tho, I still have problems, several years on, not with a full on spasm but it's as if my muscles in my back remember the trauma of the spasm and I would say are on high alert all the time, so anytime I seam to move to far from centre they will painfully tighten up defensively but not a full on spasm. I've also noticed a weakening of my stomach muscles due to my high alert back muscles getting involved when my stomach muscles should do the work n this happens even tho I've been doing weekly Pilates with a physio for past 4 years. I think it's just one of those things I have to put up with now.

For me it was a slow process but it is important not to try and rush the healing process

Wishing you loads of luck getting seen quickly

Jo

If you have torn ligaments then some kind of repair will be necessary - either Immobilisation or an operation. Exercise will not let torn ligaments heal but will continue to pull them apart.

I agree curlybacks and Joanne1972. The GP referral is best may forward. Also your domestic situation may add clout. My old GP was good at dealing with' extra' pain concerns. I sincerely hope you have good GP to get this spasm/strain dealt with soon.

Benzodiazipines are very good for muscle spasms, but they're addictive, so docs don't like to give them out a lot.
