Has anyone had this done? I have two discs at the bottom of my spine that my surgeon/spinal dr wants to shave/cut back.
I’m m 31 with two children- a theee year old and a 7.5 ye old with complies special needs.
I’m petrified of the risks I have read about!
Has anyone had this and what was your experience of it?

Hmmm. I hesitate to answer, because my outcome was one of the worst possible, and is very uncommon. I had a microdiscectomy at L5/S1 10 years ago. It worked really well (although thank God for morphine). My pain wasn't gone, but it was SO much better. Everything was fine until about 4 weeks later, when I started having a different pain. It got worse for several weeks, until it was almost as bad as before the surgery. Had another MRI. I grew massive amounts of scar tissue, which is wrapped around my spinal nerves and my left sciatic nerve. It impinges on them and rubs against them all the time. I'm hypermobile, and apparently hypermobile people tend to scar much more than other people. They said if they went back in and removed the scar tissue, I'd almost certainly grow more, which might be worse than leaving it. Also, they might damage major nerves while excising the scar tissue. So I've lived with chronic neuropathic pain, a couple of paralyzed muscles in my back, sciatica, pins and needles, and agonizing back spasms for a decade.
