Depo injection

So January this year I came off the injection as I’ve been on it 2 years and they say the longer you are on it the harder it is to get your periods back etc. I am now back on the pill but haven’t had a period yet I’m going to the doctors tomorrow but it’s a bit worrying....

Don’t worry hun, it took me over 6 months to even have a proper period I didn’t even bleed for over 3 months after coming off it and I only had it three times. Bodies are crazy things especially where hormones are concerned x

It’s just so strange my periods used to be awful and now there’s nothing I haven’t even had spotting which is what I had when I was due my next injection. I feel constantly tired and always in the worst mood but I suppose it’s all hormone related.

the injection is the WORST form of contraeption ever and Ive tried everything and my god did it mess up my body i bleed every day i was on it and i was a proper moody beep lol. As its only been a few months and you've gone straight to the pill give your body time to adjust.

The actual pill or type of pill your now taking could be doing this as well not just the fact you've come off the injection. Did you ask for the pill your on now or did the doctor recommend it?

x

Unless there is a chance you could be pregnant? the first week of most pills doesn't cover you x

I asked for the pill I’m on as it was what I was on before the injection and it’s the only one I can take with my migraines. I did a pregnancy test about 2 weeks ago and it was negative...

Is there a chance you could be pregnant then? To me it just sounds like hormones and the change from injection to pill, and your body could be reacting differently to the pill you used to be on. I would say leave it another few weeks and if still nothing call your doctor and talk to them.

As long as you’ve not got bad/severe pain or bleeding so bad your clotting etc it sounds like normal x

Dear caitscase,

I'm a MAN and, as such, am not really qualified to comment here. So why am I? Because something has 'struck' me. You have been on an Injection that, you knew, reeked 'Havoc' with your Reproductive System. The result of all of this was to prevent you from becoming pregnant, am I right so far? You have now 'Come Off', this regime and, instead of letting your Poor body recover itself, you are now taking a Tablet to do the same 'Thing'- or have I miss-read Something. Assuming I AM right, on this,?- no wonder your feeling bad! Your poor body is under Chemical Attack, I'm not joking.

I can understand, your need/desire, to prevent Pregnancy but can't HE wear a condom, whilst your poor BODY recovers?

As I said, right at the start, I'm a MAN so what do I know? Maybe just an Interfering, middle aged, man but one who CARES. I hope you can understand why I have written this and are not offended, by it.

Kindest regards

AndrewT

I understand your thoughts and if it was as easy as that for me I wouldn’t be on contraceptive medication. I’ve been on it since I was 12. My periods have been so bad since I was 12 which was the reason I was put on the pill on the first place. I’ve suffered from low iron due to my periods because of how bad they’ve been. My younger sister suffers the same problems however she’s been investigated by doctors who believe she has endometrious. I want to come off the pill all together I’m just so scared everything will go back to what it was like 2 years ago before I started the injection. I think you’re right I do need to let me body repair itself but it just totally freaks me out the thought of my cycles being what they were like 2 years ago.

I hear you. I started on the Pill when I was 11, because my cramps were so bad, lasted 3 days, and made me throw up. Have you thought about a coil? I've had one for 6 years now, and I adore it.

Dude... everything about how you have written this angers me, but I just wanted to say that it is so nice to see a guy who agrees that birth control is hard on us females. But birth control is used for other reasons than just preventing pregnancy. :)

Your posts are very creepy towards women... it is their own choice whether to use the pill, coil etc. Periods are painful - my ex also had endometrisis and decided to abuse her body as you so put it. It helped the pain and her skin and had nothing to do with me being too lazy to wear a condom.

Well said. It’s so good to see blokes like you

Unfortunately us women have to deal with a hell of a lot and probably around 40% or women/girls are on some type of hormonal contraception for reason other than preventing pregnancy.

They are used for a HUGE number of reasons! Just like people taking strong painkillers for chronic pain sometimes it’s just needed and it’s not like people can just take a break from the painkillers to help their body it’s medically needed just as a lot of contraceptions for people.

Every body is different, but I agree with the other poster who said that the Depo shot is the worst. I had only gotten one shot and at first, I thought it was amazing! It stopped my periods all together and I didn't have any cramps. Then I started getting migraines, I was really emotional and angry, and I just didn't like the way it made me feel. So I didn't get a second shot and boy, it was horrible.

Unlike you, I however bled for weeks without any sign of it stopping. After I went to Planned Parenthood I was prescribed a high dose a ibuprofen. I think it was 500mg twice a day, since ibuprofen can help stop bleeding--which if you have been taking this, might contribute to you not getting your period. Maybe two weeks later, the bleeding stopped. It took me about six months before my cycle returned to normal since I didn't want to take another type of birth control like they suggested. Ironically, the same thing happened to my mom about 25 years ago, so that goes to show you that the Depo shot is pure evil.

Anyway, since you are young (I'm assuming), you might just naturally have a unpredictable cycle for a little while. With you not having your period, your ovaries are resting and it is causing the lining of your uterus to not grow. It takes anywhere between 6 to 18 months for your cycle to start.

The Depo shot works by preventing your body from secreting multiple hormones that go into having a cycle. It is referred to as a "progesterone only" birth control and is in multiple drug classes. Basically meaning that it is a cocktail of drugs.

I understand the fear of your cycle returning to what it was, but in order for you to even just get periods, you need to give your body a break. This is especially true if you are under the age of 18. Your body is still growing and learning how to regulate itself.

So with all this said, you probably won't be having normal periods for a while even with the help of oral birth control but there is absolutely nothing you need to be afraid of! It might seem terrifying now, but this is just the way your body is dealing with all the changes. It's having to relearn how and what to do with the hormones that are no longer being suppressed.

BUT of course, this is just my opinion and takeaway from researching the Depo shot years ago. I am in no way a doctor or trained medically. Do let us know how your appointment goes, though! Wishing you nothing bit the best, sweetheart. ❤

The appointment went well she basically said what you said that my womb lining is healing which is why there is no bleeding at the moment but not too be worried! Thank you for your help! It’s reasurring that it’s not just me that something like this has happened too!
