Really painful stiff back
You need to see a chiropractor. They can give a second opinion which you can take back to your doctor.
Pain in backs can be for all sorts of reasons. Diagnosis cannot be given here because words on a page cannot give all the symptoms present. You need to start to develop self knowledge on how do your muscles actually work. This is in order to take steps to self manage your condition. Yoga under a good teacher is worth taking up. There is a tendency to say I have a bad back and all effort goes into handling that or not. Bad backs would also have bad arm movements to go with it. The bad arm movements are considered minor. However, they are important and need to be tackled in order to reduce stresses on the body and learn about muscle management.
The human body is an engineering system and as such obeys the laws of physics and engineering. All engineering systems have a stress breakdown point. Go over the stress breakdown point and the system breaks down badly. Keep the stress below the stress breakdown point and the system functions. So moving the arms better reduces stress. Putting in a regime to ensure you are getting enough sleep reduces stress. By looking at all the things you can do to reduce stress will improve the problems with the back which in turn will make life a little bit easier.
Hope I have been helpful.
Has your GP referred you to a physiotherapist? You're past the 3 month point so they should be able to offer physiotherapy.
Have you had a referral to a Pain Clinic?
Have you tried getting in touch with an o.t. They may help.
Did you get some muscle relaxers? I take baclofe, 10 mg x 3 daily. It helps.
Baclofen. Sorry...
Diagnosis is difficult. Did your pain start after a incident i.e. a fall etc. Mine was misdiagnosed and physio wasn't the first action the GP should have insisted on a MRI scan, that would have reveled that the spine had damage. A later consultant was alarmed that they tried to apply the rack and realign the spine. As the injury wasn't a clear indication, I went in for very bad spasms in my legs and pain. So I was surprised to be told it was my spine, but looking back. Being in the dark over the reasons for the pain, I trusted the doctors. Hindsight is a great thing. but the cost of MRI's is coming down. You need to be insistent with your doctor and get him to refer you. If you are in the UK then check NHS Choices for the nearest Pain management clinic. They will assess your pain and treatment. nhs.uk/search?collection=nh...
