Abnormal bone marrow on MRI
Hi i also have severe pain and im receiving morphine via an intrathecal implant/pump yet the pain is getting worse, the pain is constant ,there are no spinal cord compression it seems to me the pain comes from the bone ,im often nauseas and have periodic chills and night sweats ,Im also aneamic ,diabetes can explain the night sweats and chills,i thought the pain in my back was nerve pain but the MRI shows no nerve compression on calcification and a proliferation of bone spurs ,the abnornal marrow signal seems to be the major concern and i realised the pain is on the whole spine and in a few ribs on my right side its a constant gnawing pain and the morphine just takes the edge off ,i will see my physician in a few days ,but the suspense are driving me bonkers since the major sign of bone cancer are pain.I also have a cyst on my ovary that is opaque so who knows what goes on in there,I have also lost weight and are constantly tired-please advise on potential diseases that goes with my symptoms
It could mean nothing, or it could mean something, you really need to talk to your GP or consultant. sometimes things come up in MRIs that years ago we would never have known about and would have just lived with, but other times they can shed light onto what is happening. It will really take a professional to let you know. They may want more tests because without them displacement of marrow fat isn't an indicator of any particular problem, it could be a sign of all sorts of things.
When MRIs first started being used on people that had chronic back ache, they found that all these people had a certain anomaly. So they operated on this and all these people still had back pain.
Then some bright spark suggested that they scan people that didn't have back pain and it turned out that all older people's backs look like this!
MRIs are very sensitive, and sometimes they see things that need more information to figure out if they are part of the problem or not and if they are part of the problem, which one it is.
I hope you can make an appointment and ask your doctor these questions.
Thanks Cyberbarn im in hospital and saw the neurologist i will be seeing more specialists tomorrow. My physician thinks that the abnormal bone marrow can be due to OSA -sleep apnea she surmises that hypoxia might have caused the bone marrow changes -I will post update as soon as i have news
